Ask about one thing about Charlotte Bront? and Jane Austen.
The anti-Jane faction
But, naturally, with Jane's fans, there are also Jane's detractors. The most famous was naturally Charlotte Bronte, who was very unimpressed with Austen. She once criticized Austen extremely harshly in her private letters. Considering the feelings of our readers, she will not be quoted. Another famous enemy of Jane was Mark Twain. However, papers have been written specifically to prove that Mark Twain did not really dislike Jane. Presumably, though, Miss Austen would not have really cared about this right or wrong. The really strange one is Henry James. In Gipling's novel, when the gang of Jane fans mentioned that Miss Jane was not married and had no children, someone said that whoever said Austen had no descendants, her descendant was Henry James. Later, Leavis, in his great study of the English and American novels, The Great Tradition, really did see Austen through George Eliot to James as the most important genealogy of the English novel. But James rarely mentions Austen. His most famous exposition appears in a lecture on Balzac.
