Characteristics of Pingju

Characteristics of Pingju: strong lyricism, fluency and naturalness, and strong local flavor. "Comment" means commenting on society, storytelling and rap.

Pingju, which spreads in the north of China, is one of the traditional operas of the Han nationality, one of the popular operas, and one of the five major operas in China. Some people think it is the second largest drama in China. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, it was formed on the basis of the ditty "Opposite Lotus Falls" in Luanxian County, Hebei Province. It was first popular in rural areas of Hebei province, and then entered Tangshan, and was called "Tangshan Xiazi". Pingju is divided into East Road and West Road, with East Road as the main one.

There is also a view that when Cheng et al. adapted Lotus Falls into Tangshan Luozi, they absorbed a full set of musical instruments from Hebei Bangzi, and they named the new play JD. COMNo. 1 Pingqiang Bangzi Opera, or Pingju Opera for short, is sung in one's own voice. The representative actors at that time were Yue Mingzhu and Jin.

After the Revolution of 1911, Beijing was renamed Beiping, and Peking Opera was also called Pingju. "Pingju", headed by Cheng, has now developed to Tianjin and other places, paired with Pingju and renamed it Peking Opera. So it was named Pingju, which means "commenting on the past and discussing the present".

There is also a view that when bungee jumping was performed in Shanghai in 1935, it was renamed as "Pingju" at the suggestion of the famous Lu Haihuan because there were many new ideas of "punishing evil and promoting good" and "commenting on the past and discussing the present". When Bai Zai 1936 filmed Begonia Red, the name of Pingju was first published in Ta Kung Pao by the press. Since then, the name of Pingju has been widely circulated throughout the country.
