Which dynasty did the tile-roofed house originate from?
According to Oracle Bone Inscriptions's font, there were towering decorative or structural components on the roof more than 3,000 years ago, but no real pottery tiles have been excavated. So we can know that this component may be made of wood-rotten or copper-which modern people have not recognized, but there is no fired pottery tile on it.
The invention and use of tiles in the early Western Zhou Dynasty (BC 1046 ~ BC 77 1 year) were found in the ruins of the early Western Zhou Dynasty in Feng Chu Village, Qishan, Shaanxi Province, and the number was small, so it was judged to be only used for roofs, gutter and roofs. In the middle and late Western Zhou Dynasty, a large number of tiles were found in Chen Zhao site in Fufeng, Shaanxi Province, and some roofs were all covered with tiles. The quality of tiles was also improved, and half tiles appeared.
During the Spring and Autumn Period of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770-476 BC), tiles were widely used. In Houmajin, Shanxi, Luoyang, Henan, Fengxiang, Qin Yongcheng, Shaanxi, Chu and Du Ying, Jiangling, Hubei, a large number of slab tiles, pipe tiles, partial half tiles and full tiles were found in the Spring and Autumn Period. The surface is engraved with all kinds of exquisite patterns, which shows that the roof has begun to be covered with tiles.
During the Qin and Han Dynasties, an independent pottery industry was formed, and many improvements were made in the process, such as using tenons to make the joints between tiles more consistent, instead of using nails and noses. During the Western Han Dynasty, the technology made remarkable progress. The pipe tile with ring tile was simplified from three processes to one process, and the quality of the tile was greatly improved, because it was called "Qin Brick Hanwa".
The Temple of Hera was built in Olympia, Greece in 640 BC. It is the oldest tile building, and tiles are made of clay. Tile burning technology soon spread throughout Europe and Asia. The Romans were the first to use sandstone and limestone to make ceramic tiles, and clay slate was not widely used until the12nd century.
