Little Red Riding Hood's Movie Review
This Weinstein animated release is underfunded ($8 million) roughly drawn and a bit out of its time, but nothing that detracts from its brilliance. This spoof of traditional fairy tales features a myriad of subversive characters: a kung-fu-playing Little Red Riding Hood, a vegetarian Big Bad Wolf, a grandma who fights in a free-for-all and enjoys extreme sports, and an old goat who can't talk but only sings. ...... But all of these characters are nowhere near as subversive as the real villain of the piece, Poingo the Rabbit. -Bunny Boingo is more subversive.
The film's plot is logical and varied, combining "Rashomon"-style multiple narratives with "Two Old Smoking Guns"-style dramatic tension, making it an animated film that respects the audience's ability to think. If this script were directly adapted into a live-action movie, it would probably be quite good. But it does seem like a bit too much of a story for younger children. (Time.com)
The new version of "Little Red Riding Hood" uses modern high-tech, especially computer technology and sound, light and shadow technology to participate in the computer production, forming a breathtaking video spectacle that is either opulent or thrilling; it uses parody, cut-and-paste, irony and other standard postmodern expressions in the film's narrative grammar; it adopts a non-linear narrative mode in its structure, deconstructing the traditional "Little Red Riding Hood" fairy tale, and building a story that is very different from the traditional fairy tale. In terms of structure, it adopts a non-linear narrative mode, deconstructs the traditional fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood, and constructs a new version of the Little Red Riding Hood detective story which is very different from the traditional fairy tale, which is a post-modern movie full of irony and based on fairy tales.
