What is Suzaku?

Suzaku, also known as Suzaku, is one of the four elephants and one of the four spirits in China traditional culture, and its origin time should be no later than the Spring and Autumn Period and one of the four spirits.

It is the appearance of seven nights in the south of twenty-eight nights, covered with flames, which will not go out all day. It is a beast representing the south. The color is red, the sun is in the four elephants, the fire is in the five elements, the gossip is outside, and the season is summer, which belongs to Emperor Yan.

In the pre-Qin tomb culture, gods led the souls of the dead to heaven, and in later Taoism, immortal officials were recorded. Taoism calls them "Lingguang", and in different Taoist scriptures, they are called "Emperor Jun", "Holy General", "God General" and "Ghost-catching General".

Among the twenty-eight lodging houses, Nanqi lodging house is the general name of (well, ghost, willow, star, Zhang, wing and qi).

Many people call Suzaku a "fire phoenix", but in fact the phoenix is "shaped like a golden pheasant with colorful feathers", which is different from Suzaku. Suzaku is one of the four spirits in the sky, and Phoenix is the god bird of the earth, the first of all birds. Besides, the sun is a three-legged bird and has something to do with it.

Cultural characteristics

Suzaku, a red bird, symbolizes auspicious and classical Suzaku, and has become a pure and mysterious symbol. The Southern God in ancient myths and legends of China, together with Qinglong, Baihu and Xuanwu, is called the Quartet God, representing the four directions of east, west, north and south. After the formation of the twenty-eight lodging system, Suzaku became the general name of seven lodging houses in the south. Connect them, and the characters will be imagined by their predecessors as suzaku.

There are twenty-eight lodgings in The Journey to the West, and seven lodgings in the south are Ghost Golden Sheep, Liu, Sun Rima, Zhang Yuelu, Winged Fire Snake and Lumbricus. The words behind are all animals. In 2000, Qi's Pan-Asian Theory said that the ancient state of Yue took Suzaku as its totem.
