Li Zunqi, once known by his pen name Sanmo, was a native of Shaanxi, who practiced calligraphy since childhood. He studied under the tutelage of Zhong Mingshan and Lu Zhaoxiang, and founded the Zunqi Shu Tan in Chang'an. He is now a member of the Chinese Modern Calligraphy Association, a member of the Shaanxi Traditional Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Research Association, and an academician of the Chinese Traditional Culture Research Institute. Zunqi's calligraphy is profound, elegant and widely praised by people in the calligraphy circle in Chang'an. He has won many awards in national competitions and Shaanxi competitions, including the gold medal in the First National Couplet Calligraphy Exhibition, the excellence award in Lanting Prize and Peony Cup Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition, the gold medal in the World Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition, the excellence award in the Calligraphy Competition in Celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC and Welcoming the Return of Macao to the Motherland, the second medal in the Eighth National Exhibition of Young and Middle-aged Calligraphy and Seal-carving Artists and the nomination award in the Second Lanting Prize of Chinese Calligraphy.
