What is BPO?

Benzoyl peroxide, also known as benzoyl peroxide, is a commonly known initiator BPO, and its molecular formula is C 14H 10O4. At room temperature, benzoyl peroxide is a white crystalline powder with a slight bitter almond flavor, soluble in benzene, chloroform and ether, and slightly soluble in ethanol and water.

Used as monomer polymerization initiator for PVC, unsaturated polyester, polyacrylate, etc. And crosslinking agent polyethylene and rubber vulcanizing agent. Dibenzoyl peroxide is a strong oxidant and easy to burn. The properties are extremely unstable. Friction, impact, strong light irradiation, high temperature, sulfur and reducing agent are all in danger of causing fire and explosion, and adding sulfuric acid can also cause combustion.

In order to prevent explosion, insoluble salts such as calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate and calcium sulfate, talcum powder and bentonite are generally used when diluted to about 20%, or 25-30% water is injected when stored. Benzoyl peroxide has low toxicity, is harmful if taken by mistake, and is irritating to eyes, skin and mucosa, so direct contact should be avoided.

use

Dibenzoyl peroxide is the most widely used initiator in polymerization, which is mainly used as initiator and crosslinking agent for solvent polymerization of PVC, polyacrylonitrile, acrylate and vinyl acetate, graft polymerization of chloroprene rubber and SBS with methyl methacrylate, curing of unsaturated polyester resin, plexiglass adhesive and so on.

Used as vulcanizing agent and crosslinking agent for silicone rubber and fluororubber in rubber industry. It can also be used as bleaching agent and oxidant in chemical production. Benzoyl peroxide can whiten wheat flour. On February 20th111,six ministries and commissions, including the Ministry of Health, issued a notice prohibiting the addition of benzoyl peroxide, calcium peroxide and food additives to flour production from February 20th11.
