3. The Story of Zixia
Zixia was a student of Confucius. One year, Zixia was sent to be a magistrate in Ju Father (now in Ju County, Shandong Province). Before he left, he paid a special visit to his teacher and asked Confucius for advice, saying, "May I ask, how can I govern a place well?"
Confucius said to Zixia with great enthusiasm: " To govern a place is a very complicated thing. However, if you grasp the root, it is also very simple."
After explaining to Zixia some of the things he should pay attention to, Confucius repeatedly instructed: "There is no desire to be quick, and there is no desire to see a small advantage. If you want to be quick, you will not achieve; if you see small gains, you will not achieve great things."
