2 Name of operation

Blood pressure measurement method with mercury sphygmomanometer

3 Supplies and preparation

Mercury sphygmomanometer and stethoscope.

4 Methods and contents

1. Before measurement, the patient should be instructed to rest in bed for a few minutes to avoid emotional tension. Measurement can be taken in the sitting position or supine position.

2. Expose the upper arm and place the sphygmomanometer at the same level as the upper arm and heart.

3, open the balloon neck valve, drive out the gas in the cuff, wrap it around the upper arm smoothly without folds, the lower edge of the cuff is 3cm from the elbow, and neatly tuck the end into the end circle of the cuff, and then turn on the mercury sink switch.

4, wear a good stethoscope with a hand in the elbow socket at the medial part of the brachial artery pulsation, the stethoscope chest piece placed here, the other hand holding the balloon to close the valve pumping, to the disappearance of brachial artery pulsation sound, and then slightly elevated 1kPa (8mmHg), and then micro-open the valve, so that the column of mercury slowly down to zero. Pay attention to the sound changes and watch the scale on the mercury column.

5, from no sound to hear the first sound, at this time the mercury column indicates the number of kilopascals (kPa) for the systolic blood pressure; when the sound suddenly disappeared, the mercury column indicates the number of kilopascals (kPa) for the diastolic blood pressure. If you do not hear, the cuff should be discharged, so that the mercury column down to zero, a short pause, and then repeat the measurement.

6, the measurement is complete, open the gas valve, unlock the cuff, exhaust the cuff within the residual gas, organized properly, the rubber ball flat box, close the mercury tank switch and box cover to prevent mercury backflow and crush the glass tube.

7, record the results, record the way to use fractional, that is, systolic / diastolic pressure kPa, such as 16/10kPa (12075mmHg). If the sudden weakness of the sound is far from complete disappearance [1.33kPa (10mmHg) or more, the 2 figures should be recorded at the same time, e.g. 24/125.33kPa (180/8040mmHg)].

5 Lower limb blood pressure measurement method

The patient lies prone, exposing the lower limbs, wrapping the cuff around the lower thigh at 23cm from the popliteal fossa, feeling the popliteal artery pulsation, and then placing the stethoscope, the measurement method is the same as that of the upper limbs. Generally, the blood pressure of the lower limbs is 2.665.33kPa (2040mmHg) higher than that of the upper limbs. If the cuff is wrapped around the ankle joint, the stethoscope is placed on the dorsalis pedis artery for auscultation, or a wider cuff is used on the thigh, then the measured blood pressure figures are roughly the same as those of the upper limb.

6 Precautions

1, before measurement should check the sphygmomanometer mercury column has no cracks, mercury leakage, whether to maintain the zero position, the rubber tube and the balloon has no leakage. Pediatric application of children's cuff.

2, need to precipitate the observation of blood pressure patients, try to do fixed time, ***, arm and sphygmomanometer.

3, blood pressure measurement when the open valve can not be too fast, so as not to see the scale or inaudible sound changes and lead to errors.

4, some hypertensive patients, in the contraction of its beat sound after the start, there can be a short period of silent period called auscultation interval, at this time should be the first time the sound of the height of the mercury column for systolic blood pressure. Patients with cerebrovascular accident hemiplegia should be measured in the healthy arm.
