The so-called tolerance, that is to say, the relationship between the highlights and the dark, there are many forms of expression, such as the higher the tolerance, the details, the level of the month rich. The simplest and easiest to understand example is: the midday sun, a beautiful woman wearing a duck-tongued hat, the beautiful face is covered by the shadow of the brim of the hat, the top of the hat by the sun is very high brightness, this time to reflect the beauty of the face hidden in the shadows at the same time in the details of the face, but also to reflect the details of the hat in the sun, is the so-called highlights and the dark part of the relationship between them. Digital because it is linear, so it needs to be exposed at a balanced point, in order to avoid the face is dead black (the dark part of the serious underexposure and thus the loss of levels), the hat is dead white (highlights overexposure and thus the loss of levels). The film's non-linear, you can underexpose a little, overexpose a little, can be very good to retain these details, the greater the margin of control, but can not exceed the film's latitude, beyond the results of the more tragic than the digital, can not be adjusted, direct waste of film.

Of course, this contrast is compared to the camera straight out of the box, digital cameras, if you use RAW, late adjustment of the margin is very large, the film in the darkroom to adjust the temperature, soak time can also have a lot of room for adjustment, these are not in the impact of this.

2, color advantage

Film color and digital color, explain the complexity of the more professional, with the simplest non-professional words to describe the words, that is, the color of the film is non-linear, digital color is linear. Green can come from the blue excess, can also come from the red excess, the excess of the level can be a layer, can be two layers, there can be an infinite number of layers, for the film, a silver salt particles can exist at the same time several colors, can also only exist in one color, like watercolor paintings, the excess of color is very natural, for the digital is a myriad of pixels of the linear ladder of the excess, each pixel can only exist in Each pixel point can only exist in one color, there is a certain level and order of the excess between the pixel points, which is why the higher the resolution of the digital camera, the better the color is relatively speaking, when the pixel points have enough infinite and small, it can be regarded as a non-linear excess, but at present, the digital camera has not yet reached that level, so in the color problem, digital is a little bit worse than the film.
