Rules of the competition
Archery is the skill of shooting an arrow with a bow and hitting a predetermined target, hitting the target. The winner of an archery competition is calculated by the number of rings that the athlete hits the target of the archery goal, and the closer to the center of the arrow that hits the target, the higher the number of rings obtained. When an archer prepares to fire, he or she holds the bow with the bow hand and straightens the bow arm, then pulls the bowstring back with the string pulling hand until the bow is full, looks at the sights, and then releases the bow.
The competition system
Olympic archery competitions use a single-elimination tournament system, the competition time is six days.
Individual Competition
The individual competition is divided into three stages: ranking, elimination and final, all with a range of 70 meters. First of all, the ranking match, male and female 64 athletes, each shooting 6 groups of arrows, each group of 6 arrows, *** 36 arrows; after a break of 10-15 minutes, in accordance with the above procedures to shoot again, *** 72 arrows. And the cumulative number of rings of these 72 arrows will be used to rank the 1st-64th male and female athletes, who will be paired according to the Archery Rules Elimination Match Pairing Table, e.g., 1st vs. 64th, 2nd vs. 63rd, and so on for the Elimination Match. Elimination round each athlete shoots 12 arrows, divided into 4 groups, 3 arrows per group, 30 seconds per arrow, using one-on-one alternate firing method, the winner enters the next stage of the competition, and finally 8 athletes are decided to enter the finals; in the finals, athletes' firing method and number of arrows are the same as in the elimination rounds, and finally the champion and the runner-up are decided.
Team Competition
The Team Competition is divided into two stages: elimination and final. Each team of 3 athletes, the range is 70 meters. According to the sum of the results of the three athletes of each team in the individual ranking competition to rank the men's and women's team No. 1-16 team into the team elimination rounds. Each team **** shoots 24 arrows, divided into 4 groups. Each team has 6 arrows, each person shoots 2 arrows, with a time limit of 2 minutes. After the team that fires first shoots 3 arrows (each athlete takes turns shooting 1 arrow each), the time clock is paused and the remaining time is kept while the other team's time clock is started and 3 arrows are shot in the same way. The team that fired first then completes another 3 arrows in the remaining time, followed by the team that fired later completing the set of arrows in the same way. The winning team moves on to the next stage of the competition. The final round will be held with the same launching method and number of arrows as the elimination round, and the winner and runner-up will be decided at the end.
Regulations on launching
Because of the danger of archery, there are clear regulations on the launching of arrows in different archery competitions, e.g., except for physically handicapped or wheelchair-bound athletes, the launching of arrows must be done with both feet on the starting line, or with both feet on the line at the same time; in the field of the competitions, apart from the prescribed practice time or under the command of the signal of the head of the firing squad, the athletes can be facing the target on the shooting line. In the competition field, except during the prescribed practice time or at the signal command of the starting chief, the athlete on the starting line can face the direction of the target, he/she is not allowed to open his/her bow in other directions at other times; during the competition, except for the athlete whose turn it is to launch, no one else is allowed to enter the launching area, etc.
Regulation of scoring
Scoring method The number of rings in archery competition is also called the score, and the reporting of the rings is also called the reporting of the target or the score. Confirmation of the elimination and final ring value, the referee in descending order to report the score, the scorekeeper and the athlete agent to verify the results on the score sheet. The specific scoring method is: 1 point for hitting the outermost white ring area - until 10 points for hitting the inner yellow center.
An arrow is scored high if it hits in a position that touches both colors of the ring or if the shaft of the arrow touches the ring line. If an arrow hits the target surface right on the end of an arrow, it is scored as a ring value for the arrow that has hit the target. If an arrow is shot through the face of the target, or bounces off the face of the target and lands on the ground, the arrow is scored according to the hit point or unmarked hole it leaves in the face of the target. Regardless of whether the arrow hits the target or not, the arrow is scored when it crosses beyond the 3-meter line; if the arrow lands inadvertently but part of the shaft falls within the 3-meter line, the Referee judges the arrow as unmarked and the athlete is allowed to shoot another arrow.
Ring Rules
The number of rings (points) will be recorded according to the position of the arrow's shaft on the target. All scores shall be reported, recorded and judged before the arrow is drawn. After recording, the athlete or agent shall mark the hole of the arrow that has been shot. When the arrow is too close to the ring line, when there is a special situation on the target (e.g. penetration of the arrow, etc.), or when the athlete of the target disagrees with the number of rings reported, the referee must be asked to judge the rings. There are clear rules for the referee to decide on the ring. For example, if the arrow shaft touches the ring line, it will be judged as a high ring; if the arrow hits the target and then hits other places, it will be judged according to the position where it finally hits the target, and so on.
Penalties for Fouls
The main penalties for fouls include verbal warnings, yellow card warnings, red card warnings, and corresponding ring deductions, and cancellation of the competition results, etc. Verbal warnings are for minor fouls; red card warnings are for minor fouls. Verbal warning is a minor foul; yellow card warning is also a minor foul; red card warning is a serious foul. During the team competition, when an athlete ignores the yellow card warning and continues to launch, the referee shows a red card and deducts the team's score for the highest ring value in the group. In addition to this, athletes who use equipment that does not comply with the regulations of the International Archery Federation (IAF), falsification, doping, etc., are penalized by the cancellation of the competition results.
