What does "blood sacrifice" mean?
In ancient times, livestock were slaughtered for blood sacrifice: blood sacrifice was offered to the country, the Five Sacrifices and the Five Mountains.
blood sacrifice, also known as red sacrifice or blood-giving sacrifice, generally refers to the slaughter of cattle, sheep, horses and other animals as sacrifices to worship the gods; Or use these animals to sacrifice first and then slaughter. There is also a kind of blood sacrifice called "Red Sacrifice", which specifically refers to killing the living as a sacrifice to worship the gods. However, according to the information we have now, this kind of red sacrifice to kill the living is still rare. Most of them are sacrificed at the expense of cattle and sheep, even at the expense of macaques. That is to say, taking the variant form of blood sacrifice-martyrdom as an example, at present, only bones such as cattle and horses have been found in archaeological excavations in Tibetan areas, and no human and macaques have been discovered. Of course, we must not deny the possibility of human martyrdom because of this, nor can we deny the records of human martyrdom in Sino-Tibetan historical books. The Gongbumo rock is engraved with examples of human martyrdom in Gongzampu period. According to historical records, in the history of various ethnic groups, living people or live livestock have been used as sacrifices to bless the rich agricultural production and the safe life of ethnic groups. Of course, from the present point of view, blood sacrifice is very barbaric and backward, so most ethnic groups in the world stopped the tradition of blood sacrifice and switched to other methods of sacrifice, especially the sacrifice of living people.
Blood sacrifice is an important part of primitive religious sacrifice activities of Tibetan ancestors. When some important (formal) sacrificial activities are held, it is often held together with the dance of leaning against mulberry and praying to God. In other words, when Tibetan ancestors held sacrificial activities, they not only had to stew mulberry, but also offered "blood sacrifices" and danced various dance movements to pray for God or exorcise demons.
