What did the arrow heads of bows in the Song Dynasty look like
The arrowheads were made of copper or iron, and the arrowheads were enclosed by several steel nails.
The bow and arrow heads of the Song Dynasty were generally four-pronged conical arrowheads, in fact, ancient bows and arrows were generally tapered and prismatic.
The front end of the arrow shaft can be sharpened and hardened directly. Tying it tightly to the shaft with additional sharp arrowheads would work even better. Tinplate is great: flint sharpening also makes really sharp arrows. The front end of the shaft is split down the center and the arrowhead is inserted and tied down tightly. Tendons make good binding material - they work well when wet, and shrink when dry, binding the arrow tightly.
The following picture shows a Song Dynasty wind-feathered arrow.
The Song army was mainly armed with bows and crossbows, which made up more than 60% of the Song army.
The advantages of the bow and arrow are long range, easy to shoot through the iron armor, parabolic shooting, disadvantages, shooting two arrows, the other side on horseback rushed over, and laborious, the average adult shooting ten arrows will not have much strength, and requires skill.
The advantage of the bow is that it is effortless, easy to operate, shoots in a straight line, and the rate of fire is about twice as fast as that of the bow, and the disadvantage is that it has a short range, and the other cavalry rushes over after shooting one arrow.
So field battles are not favorable to bows, and only archers are used for defending cities and defenses. This is also one of the reasons why the hu people swept the world with bows and arrows.
Since the crossbow was the main weapon, the Song Dynasty measured a person's martial arts by the strength of his arm, i.e., how many buckets of bows he could draw. The highest record for a soldier to draw a bow at that time was 270 sheng jin (one sheng jin is about 1.2 city jin). This was several times the drawing power of the soldiers in the Spring and Autumn Period. Some brave generals were even more impressive, Yue Fei and Han Shizong could both draw a bow of 300 Song jin. But a bow of this weight would never be used in battle. It should have taken into account the accuracy, which the Song army did not pay much attention to ...?
There are many types of crossbows in the Song army, and two stand out. One for the bed crossbow, two for the God arm bow.
