Yuanmingyuan information

Yuanmingyuan is located in the northwest suburb of Beijing, adjacent to the Summer Palace. It consists of Changchun Garden and Wanchun Garden, also known as Yuanmingyuan.

Yuanmingyuan was built in18th century, during the Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1709), and was basically completed in A.D. 1772. Kangxi gave it to Yongzheng, who had not acceded to the throne, to pass the time. After Yongzheng 1722 acceded to the throne, the original garden was expanded, and Zheng Da Guangming Hall and Qin Zhengtang were built in the south of the garden, as well as the value storage rooms of the Cabinet, Sixth Department and Military Department to avoid noise and listen to political affairs. During the Qianlong period, Yuanmingyuan was partially rebuilt, Changchun Garden was built in the east, and Wanchun Garden was merged in the southeast, and the pattern of Yuanmingyuan was basically formed. During the Jiaqing period, Qichun Garden became one of the main garden places after reconstruction and expansion. During the Daoguang period, the national strength declined and the financial resources were insufficient. Daoguang would rather withdraw the furnishings of Wanshou, Xiangshan and Yuquan, and stop the Jehol from summering and hunting Mulan, but he rebuilt the Yuanming Three Gardens.

Yuanmingyuan was burnt down by the British and French allied forces in 1860. Roughly speaking, the number of looted cultural relics is about150,000, ranging from bronze ritual vessels in the pre-Qin period to famous paintings and calligraphy in the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties and various rare treasures. Eight-Nation Alliance 1900 invaded Beijing, and the royal gardens in the western suburbs were robbed again. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, it was destroyed to varying degrees. Finally, during the Cultural Revolution, the Yuanmingyuan was also destroyed.

After the founding of New China, the burned Yuanmingyuan site began to be protected. 1956 Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscape Architecture began to take tree planting protection measures, 1976 Yuanmingyuan site set up a franchise organization. 1On June 29th, 988, the site of Yuanmingyuan was opened to the public.
