How did Xiao do it?

Xiao's production needs to go through the following steps:

1. Bamboo Picking: There are all kinds of bamboos suitable for making Dong Xiao. Commonly used bamboo species are Cinnamomum cassia, Dianthus caryophyllus, Meng Zongzhu, Tetragonal Bamboo, Purple Bamboo, White Bamboo and Yuping Bamboo. Good bamboo grows in cold and barren mountainous areas, and bamboo grown in fertile and watery places is not suitable for making flutes because it is not hard enough. Bamboo that grows for about five years is the most ideal. Cut bamboo about 80 cm long from the root.

2. Storage: Put the harvested bamboo in a ventilated and dark place. Bamboo is usually stored for two years before it can be used to make flutes. The longer the storage time, the better the timbre of the flute.

3. Roast bamboo: Roast bamboo with fire to straighten the bent part.

4, get through: use special steel bars to get through the bamboo joints.

5. Polishing: Polishing the bamboo cavity with an oblong file and sandpaper to reach the standard size.

6. Positioning: Saw bamboo according to the required length. According to different caliber standards, draw the positions of finger holes and blow holes on bamboo.

7. Blowing mouth: open a standard blowing mouth with a knife and polish the top of the blowing mouth and flute smoothly.

8. Drilling: drilling finger holes and sound holes where they have been positioned. The drilling sequence is from bottom to top, and the pitch is tested while drilling.

9. Tuning: Play repeatedly to adjust the pitch and performance to the best state.

10. Paint: If paint is needed, select the appropriate paint.

1 1. Carving: Draw a draft and inscription on the flute, carve it with a carving knife, and dye it with wood.

12. Polishing: If the flute body is not painted, the flute body can be polished with a polishing machine.
