Rice growth habit
Rice likes high temperature, humidity, and short days of sunshine, and it does not have stringent requirements for the soil, but the rice soil is the best. Seedling germination minimum temperature 10 ~ 12 ℃, optimal 28 ~ 32 ℃. Tillering period of more than 20 ℃ daily, spike differentiation temperature of about 30 ℃; low temperature so that the branch peduncle and glume differentiation prolonged. Spike temperature 25 ~ 35 ℃. Flowering optimal temperature of about 30 ℃, below 20 ℃ or above 40 ℃, pollination is seriously affected.
Relative humidity 50 to 90% is appropriate. Spike differentiation to the grouting period is the key period of fruiting; balanced nutritional status and high light efficiency of the population, to improve the fruiting rate and grain weight is of great significance. Spike fruiting period requires a lot of water and mineral nutrients; at the same time, it is necessary to enhance root vigor and prolong the functional period of stems and leaves. Each formation of 1 kg of rice grain requires about 500 to 800 kg of water.
Morphological characters of rice
Annual aquatic herb. Culms erect, 0.5-1.5 m tall, varying with variety. Leaf sheaths loose, glabrous; ligules lanceolate, 10-25 mm long, both bases extending down into the margins of the leaf sheaths, with 2 sickle-shaped clasping auricles; leaf blades linear-lanceolate, ca. 40 cm long, ca. 1 cm wide, glabrous, scabrous.
The panicle large and sparsely spreading, ca. 30 cm, much branched, ribs scabrid, recurved downward at maturity; spikelet containing 1 mature flower, very compressed on both sides, oblong-ovate to elliptic, ca. 10 mm, 2-4 mm wide; glumes tiny, leaving only a semilunar trace at the apex of the spikelet shank, staminodes with 2 lemmas, awl-spined, 2-4 mm long; pregnant lemmas thickly textured with 5-veined on both sides. midvein ridged, surface with chevron-shaped papillae, thickly papery, densely covered with fine hairy tips, awned or awnless; palea homogeneous with lemma, 3-veined, apex pointed and beakless; stamens 6, anthers 2-3 mm.
The glumes are ca. 5 mm long, ca. 2 mm wide, and ca. 1-1.5 mm thick; the embryo is smaller than the glumes, ca. 1/4 as long as the glumes. chromosomes 2n=24 (Shu et Qu 1985, Yao Z. 1984), x=12 (Mukhergee et Debnath 1985).
