There are more than 3,000 ancient stages of Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties in Shanxi, accounting for four-fifths of the national ancient stages. China's traditional opera has declined, but the splendor of the ancient stage has not disappeared-in the eyes of Shanxi people, the stage was once a spiritual shrine that they could not leave. There are as many as 52 local operas in Shanxi. Up to now, there are still four bangzi and various simple local operas in Gu Zhuo, which retain the sound of Yuan Zaju. Because of the prosperity of traditional Chinese opera culture, there are scattered rural stages all over Shanxi. The stage of the Tang Emperor Temple in Guoyu Village, Beiliu Town, Yangcheng County still continues the tradition of the annual temple fair. At the temple fair, while people are offering sacrifices to the gods, it is indispensable to ask the troupe to perform several big plays on the ancient stage.

Erlang Temple Stage in Wangbao Village, Gaoping City is the most complete and oldest stage in Jin Dynasty. Discovered in 2003, the stage was determined by cultural relics experts as 1 183, which was1/kloc-0 years earlier than the stage of Niuwang Temple in Linfen, Shanxi. In this photo taken more than ten years ago, most of the gray tiles on the roof of the stage have fallen off, and the mottled walls have retained their appearance more than 800 years ago.

At the end of the Ming Dynasty, a new building appeared on both sides of the stage in the temple-a double-decker watchtower, with a wing on the ground floor and a special stage for watching movies on the upper floor. The appearance of this watchtower is also an adaptation to the stage of double-decker gatehouse. Before the Ming Dynasty, the stage was mostly a single-story building, and there was a double-story gatehouse on the first floor of the stage, which could be used as office space and also provide space for public activities. The second floor is a performance place, and the wings on both sides of the stage can be used by actors for makeup.
