Yunnan Dai bamboo building is how, what are the characteristics?

The Dai Bamboo House is another kind of dry-fence type residence. Yunnan Xishuangbanna is a Dai settlement area, the terrain here is a big difference in height, the northern part of the mountains, the eastern part of the plateau, but the western part of the plains. The difference in climate of the whole region is also big, the altitude of the mountains reaches 1700 meters, belonging to the temperate climate; the altitude of the plains is 750-900 meters, belonging to the sub-tropical climate; there are river valley plains, the altitude is only 500 meters, which belongs to the tropical climate already. The Dai people mostly live in the flat dam area, which is free of snow all year round, with abundant rainfall, and the average annual temperature reaches 21℃, without the distinction of four seasons. So here, the dry-fence building is a very suitable form. Since bamboo is abundant in the region, many dwellings are built with bamboo, called bamboo buildings.

Coarse bamboo is used as skeleton, woven bamboo gabions are used as walls, floor boards are either made of gabions or wooden boards, and the roof is covered with grass. So the bamboo building with simple materials, construction is convenient and rapid. Bamboo buildings are square in plan, the bottom floor of the hollow more than not use the walls for raising livestock and stacking sundries, upstairs with the hall and bedroom, the hall set up a fire pit, is to burn tea and cooking and family reunion place; outside the open front porch and sundeck, the front porch is the owner of the daytime work, dinner, rest and reception of guests, both bright and ventilated; sundeck is the owner of the wash, sunbathing clothes, cold sunshine crops and storage of water cans of the place. This corridor is an indispensable part of the bamboo building. Such a bamboo building a moisture, two heat ventilation, three can avoid insects and beasts, four can avoid the impact of floods.

Because the annual rainfall here is concentrated, often flooding, downstairs, the wall is hollow, and more gaps in the gabion, so it is very conducive to the passage of floodwaters. The Dai people believe in Buddhism and superstitious taboos, almost every village has a Buddhist temple. Provisions in the Buddhist temple on the opposite side and the side of the house is not allowed to build; the height of the floor of the private house is not allowed to exceed the Buddhist temple in the Buddha statue sitting platform of the platform. Because of the economic disparity, the village people's housing in the size and quality of the original can not be compared with the head of the people, but also in the building of many provisions, such as laboring people's housing can not be built in the tile room, not allowed to do the carving decorations, corridors are not allowed to make three, the hall can not be used with six lattice door, and even the stairs are not allowed to be divided into two sections, upstairs and downstairs can not be used to use a through the length of the wood, but also shall not be used in the stone columns base, and so on. These restrictions do also affect the technical development of residential construction, so that a large number of residential can not maintain a long life.
