Hulusi, also known as "Huluxiao", is a musical instrument of Yunnan ethnic minorities. Hulusi originated in lianghe county, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, and is mainly popular in Dehong, Lincang and other areas where Dai, Achang, Wa, De 'ang and Bulang nationalities live together, with strong local color.

Gourd silk is divided into three types: high, medium and low. Its unique and beautiful timbre, simple and elegant appearance, simple and easy to learn, compact and easy to carry, are deeply loved by music lovers and Chinese and foreign tourists.

Hulusi and reed-coupled vibrating instruments are divided into three types: high, medium and low, including D/E/F/G/A/B/. Different nationalities have different customs and geographical environments, and the structure of cucurbit silk is also different.

Because the traditional cucurbit silk has seven sound holes (main pipes), one sound hole and one sound (unlike bamboo flute, which can blow out eight degrees on one sound hole through the change of breath), plus a drum sound * * * can blow out eight sounds. So generally speaking, the traditional cucurbit silk should be able to play five or six notes by moving the position of gong and changing the original fingering. However, due to the limitation of range and scale arrangement, the traditional cucurbit can only turn four tones, and there are only two commonly used tones, namely, the barrel key "5" and the barrel key "1", and this tone (barrel key 5) is the most commonly used. Take the cucurbit silk in the key C as an example. It can play not only the pitch (1 on the third hole) but also the key G ("1" on the barrel). It is a six-tone type based on the national mode pentatonic scale, which has certain limitations in playing music. Not all music can be played, so you should choose it according to the range. The best key is to make the third hole ".

Different from the bamboo flute that we are familiar with, the musical range of cucurbit silk cannot reach more than three 8 degrees, generally within 9 degrees, and at most does not exceed 1 1 degree, which is a national mode scale. Its timbre is soft and delicate, mellow and simple, soft and charming, with strong expressive force, which is deeply loved by the people. Its beautiful voice can be heard in both folk music and professional stage.

Hulusi is often used to play folk tunes, such as folk songs and minor tunes, and it is most suitable to play melodic and lyrical music, among which "Bambusa in the Moonlight" and "Deep Love" have become its representative classics. Hulusi is the most popular among Dai, Achang and other ethnic groups, and it is an entertainment musical instrument. During the festival, you can hear its beautiful sound whether you are rowing a dragon boat in the river, putting "Goldman Sachs" on the river, or "rushing" in the square or drinking in the bamboo house. Young men and women express their feelings or people walk on the road, work in the fields and often play cucurbit silk, which adds a lot of joy to people's lives.
