According to folk Taoist artists, the fishing drums they used were handed down by the Eight Immortals. Legend has it that when the Eight Immortals returned from crossing the sea, they suddenly saw a golden octopus making waves at sea, and the spray splashed on Zhong Liquan's clothes. Zhong Liquan was very angry, so he drew his sword and beheaded the aojiang fish, took out the fish bones, covered them with fish skin, and made a tubular musical instrument named "Fishing Drum". After the fishing drum was made, it happened that the Queen Mother had a flat peach party and the Eight Immortals came to celebrate her birthday. Han Xiangzi plays the jade flute, the cloud board and the fishing drum. These nine days, Yue Xian drifted to Guo Hua. When the Monkey King opened his eyes and saw Jin Qing, it turned out that all the immortals were celebrating the Queen Mother's birthday. When Sun saw that the Queen Mother was not invited, he made a somersault and went to Shoutang. He raised his golden cudgel and hit it. A stick hit Zhong Liquan's fishing drum and it was broken. A fairy saw it and gave Zhong Liquan a fairy bamboo, saying it could be used as a fishing drum. So I invited Lu Ban, a famous craftsman on the earth, to make fishing drums according to the samples. Lu Ban collected the fairy bamboo, made a fishing rod for Jiang Taigong with a bamboo tip, made a divination for the monk with a bamboo stake, and made a three-foot-nine-inch fishing drum among the fairy bamboo. In order to prevent the explosion, the Queen Mother tied her two bracelets to the two ends of the fishing drum respectively, and tied them with a skirt as a bandage. Since then, bamboo fishing drums have replaced bone fishing drums.
Fishing drums are made of bamboo tubes, generally about 80 cm long and 10 cm in diameter. The middle of the bamboo tube is all empty, and the knots should be removed. The time when fishing drums appeared in the literature can be roughly traced back to the early Southern Song Dynasty. Yuan Tao "Zong Yi said cymbals" volume 47 lead Song Jiangwan sit Zheng Xuan ZaLu said:
At the beginning of Jingkang, bamboo was two inches in diameter and five feet in length. They put leather covers on their heads, beat out the rhythm, and make sounds as if they were the same. Also known as system
Its law says: "Don't go over the top", and the thoroughfare is a play cloud.
In the bamboo drum in Zheng Xuan Miscellaneous Notes, one end of the bamboo tube is covered with a leather bag, which is called "unable to fit over the top". The musical instrument it uses is an ordinary bamboo tube with the thickness of a small bowl, about 1 m long, one end of which is wrapped with a pig casing film, and two copper bells are tied to a pair of long bamboo slips. When singing, the left hand holds the board, and the bamboo slips are facing down.
In addition to fishing drums, there are also simple boards for rapping and expressing feelings. The Making of "Fish Drum Bamboo Slips" in "Three Meetings" in Wang Qi in Ming Dynasty;
Cut bamboo into tubes, three or four feet long, with skin on the head and tied with two fingers. There is also a simple child, made of bamboo, two feet long and four or five feet wide.
Points, thick and half, the ends are slightly right, and when singing, two pieces are combined to make peace. Its system began in Huyuan.
Hubei fishing drums pay attention to the selection of materials. Try to use bamboo with fewer knots. Bamboo is generally used, and it is planed inside and outside. After the bamboo tube is dried, the surface is coated with tung oil. Finally, cover one end with pigskin, sheepskin or oil film (pig bladder membrane). The skin or film must be thin, too thick and not loud. In order to make the fishing drum durable, it is necessary to wrap a layer of silk thread and white cloth outside the bamboo tube, and then coat it with glue to bond it firmly, so that the fishing drum can be durable.
Due to the different sizes and specifications of bamboo tubes and the different thickness of cortex used, the pitch and timbre of fishing drums are also different. The fishing drum with large bamboo tube and thick skin has a rich sound and a low pitch; The thin-skinned fishing drum with a small bamboo tube has a crisp voice and a high tone. The musical expression of fishing drum is mainly reflected by the beat rhythm.
In order to be portable, some folk artists changed this cylinder into a two-piece socket before liberation. The "fishing drum tube" circulating in Hubei Province is mostly made of a whole piece of bamboo, while the "fishing drum tube" used by the "fishing drum" artists in the "Hanjiang River" valley is mostly "two pieces". It is not only convenient to carry, but also flexible in the middle, which can adapt to the voice of artists. The fish drum tube changed from bone to bamboo and from one section to two sections, which is a great change and progress in the history of fish drum canal. Folklore attributed this to Lv Dongbin. Taoist artists said that Lv Dongbin and Han Xiangzi sang Taoist feelings at the flat peach party of the Empress Dowager. The Monkey King didn't believe in Taoist feelings, made a scene in Heaven, and broke the purple bamboo fishing drum into two pieces. When Lv Dongbin trimmed the fishing drums, the sections of the two drums were ground flat and connected with the bracelet of the Queen Mother. Since then, the fishing drum tube has become two pieces, and the length has changed from three feet nine inches to three feet eight inches.
"In recent years, because bamboo pig heart protective film and lard film are difficult to obtain, some people use plastic pipes and plastic films instead. However, artists generally feel that the sound of modern improved fishing drums has become more beautiful.
