The unique chromogenic mixture in the medium facilitates the chromogenic identification of Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. The high pH of the medium helps in selective isolation of Vibrio spp. Culture characteristics observed after 18-24 hours of incubation at 35-37°C: Vibrio cholerae is purple and Vibrio parahaemolyticus is blue-green.
