An examination of "misogyny" and its causes in traditional customary taboos
In traditional folklore, there are many taboos against women, showing a very strong misogynistic tendency. Women's menstruation, women's pregnancy, and women's reproductive process are all symbols of filth and impurity, and a potential threat to natural and social life. Women themselves are also symbols of impurity and are seen as a "scourge" that can be destabilizing to the real order. Although there have been some case studies and comprehensive research on these issues, most of them have analyzed them from the perspective of folk psychology and history and culture, rarely drawing on a gender perspective or examining their origins and evolution from an anthropological point of view. This paper intends to start from the taboos against women in folk customs, synthesize the methods of gender studies and anthropology, and make a detailed examination of the causes of traditional misogyny.
