Before the house was renovated, the owner had lived here for more than 20 years. Due to the protection of the roof, it has continued to this day, but in order to meet the comfort requirements of modern houses, it needs to be completely transformed. At present, the stone wall of this historic stone building has been largely preserved, and only a few places need to be remodeled. The rebuilt stone building consists of a main building and a basement. The upper two floors have a living room, a kitchen and a bedroom. After the designer's transformation, a small brandy brewing room was added on the first floor, and an attic was added on the second floor, all made of natural stone. A stone ladder outside the house was added at the same time as some low walls in front of the house.

This historic stone house is located in the center of the village of Skarno, with steep mountains as the background. Formed in 18 14, the architectural communities in this area are patchwork and consistent in style, and the stone facade seems to be integrated with the surrounding environment, harmonious and orderly. According to local conditions, villagers in the old village of Scarano used broken bricks and gravel to lay the foundation and built houses with local earth and stone. There is a gravel path between buildings. Block by block, row by row, one building after another, followed for hundreds of years, and it was not until the 1990 s that construction stopped, gradually forming the current stone buildings. Whether it is a single stone building or a group of stone buildings in the whole village, it gives people a kind of local beauty, reflecting the unique beauty of painting and artistic conception.

Vespi? De? Mellon? Romeo architecture firm was told to follow some guidelines when it took over this project. The original building must be preserved, and at the same time, the extremely strong feeling emitted by the house should be maintained. In order to achieve this goal, the architect replaced the wooden beam floor with cement floor, which is beneficial to strengthen the old wall. The rotten wood members in the upper facade area are replaced by reinforced concrete walls, while maintaining the original form. A new window flush with the surface of the interior wall was installed at the original opening. The architect also embedded an oversized opening to lock the landscape and introduce light into the room. These windows are flush with the exterior wall surface, so they will not destroy the original building system. The cracks in the porous stone wall were sealed by cement, and the lost stones were replaced. In the main building, the sloping roof of wood beam structure is embedded in the stone wall, and there is also a roof terrace paved with natural stone. The main idea of this renovation project is to exert the power of the stone wall and show the simple side of this ancient building. So the stone ladder outside was removed and the small clearing in front of the house was restored. Naturally, there is a fountain and a bench.

The old wine cellar has become the main new entrance, and it also divides the boundaries between indoor and outdoor. The steel fireplace in the entrance area brings warmth to the room, and the wardrobe, washbasin and shower room are designed. The old stone walls and stairs on the side have been renovated and can lead to the second floor. The brandy distillation room can be connected to the vault of the basement, and it is also a good place to enjoy the cool in summer. The glass curtain wall of the room is facing the beautiful lake, about 60 cm away from the old stone wall. There is basically no shelter outside the house, and raindrops will float in. The glass curtain wall is like the second skin of the facade, which blocks the outside climate.

Almost the whole building external maintenance structure is internally provided with thermal insulation concrete members, which can ensure the stability of the structure and improve the thermal insulation coefficient. Thanks to the high-standard roof insulation system, controlled ventilation system, heat recovery system and large-area solar energy collection system, the residence will meet the strict Swiss sustainable structural standards. The simple external design is echoed internally, and the exposed concrete wall, original stone masonry and polished cement all set the tone.

On the one hand, this design retains the stone appearance that witnessed the historical changes of the house, on the other hand, it introduces zenith light into the room through special light reflection. Otherwise, under the structure of such villages and narrow streets, it is difficult to realize other ways of natural lighting. Cement floors, limestone walls, ceilings and oiled larch doors and windows are in harmony with the existing ones. The renovation project is not to pull up the difference with the existing buildings, but to combine the old with the new and create a brand-new whole.
