The origin of zongzi:

Zongzi is a traditional food in China, which originated in China. It is said that Zongzi originated in ancient China during the Warring States Period (475 BC-22 BC1year). There are many legends about the origin of zongzi.

One of the most popular legends is about the memory of Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was a patriotic poet and politician in China during the Warring States Period. After he was exiled, he threw himself into the river. In order to prevent fish and shrimp from eating Qu Yuan's body, local residents threw rice and various foods into the river and wrapped bamboo leaves into triangles to protect the food. This is the original prototype of Zongzi.

Another common legend is slightly different from the story commemorating Qu Yuan. According to this legend, Zongzi originated from the ancient custom of offering sacrifices to ancestors and gods in China. People wrap food in bamboo leaves, then cook or steam it and offer it to the gods. This practice later evolved into what we now know as Zongzi.

Regardless of its origin, Zongzi has become one of the important foods of the Dragon Boat Festival in China. Every year, on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, people will wrap dumplings of various flavors to commemorate Qu Yuan and protect themselves from diseases and evil. Now, Zongzi has also become a delicious food and enjoys a world reputation.
