What is the relationship between Wuji, Taiji and Two-Yi?

Wuji and Taiji are two terms in our traditional philosophy. They are the first two stages in the development process of the ancestors' understanding of things. Ancient people believe that things will be in a chaotic state before the emergence of this chaotic state, known as "Wuji". Nothing, that is, the meaning of nothingness, pole, can be understood as the boundaries, form. At this time, the thing is hidden and unveiled. When the beginning of the thing, its form and appearance gradually revealed, this stage of the state, called "Taiji", too has a big meaning. Taiji can be understood as the general outline of the thing, or the original appearance. Further on, the inner basic essence of the thing is gradually revealed, which is called "two yi". As a result, things gradually differentiate and develop from the beginning, eventually forming a variety of different but related forms of existence.

Wuji and taiji, the different stages of the development of things, is the basic and simple cognition of the ancients on the material world. Their concepts, philosophically, belong to the theoretical category of dialectics. It should be noted that Wuji is not the same as "nothing", but is contained and hidden; Taiji is not the same as something, but is sprouted and revealed. They are both relative and dynamic conceptual relationships.

In traditional culture, the concepts of wuji and taiji are widely quoted. Especially in traditional martial arts and Taoist dan gong, their concepts have their important position in the relevant theories. For example, in the traditional martial arts, each set of exercises has a special starting action, initially by facing a certain direction standing in a positive posture, this is the so-called "Wuji potential" (modern or "preparatory potential"), at this time, the fist road is not open, the fist is hidden immobile. From the Wuji style to the first movement of the hand, known as the "Taiji potential", is the fist intention to sprout, boxing style first open.
