Chinese civilization praise essay speech

Good morning, honorable teachers and students:

The title of my speech is "In Praise of the Great Wall".

The Great Wall is a carrier of Chinese history and culture, which covers a very wide range of cultural carriers in the rich connotation, through specific activities are shown, which is undoubtedly between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait to enhance the understanding of the Chinese culture, especially for the young generation in Taiwan to promote the Chinese culture and tradition, are very meaningful. At present, the Taiwan independence forces on the island are very arrogant, especially the island to promote "cultural Taiwan independence", "de-Chinaization", through the revision of textbooks, distorting the history, cut the cross-strait this is not only blood, especially cultural and spiritual ties.

Some time ago, at a cross-strait academic symposium, an associate professor at Taiwan's Normal University named Zhu Hong provided a paper entitled "Comparison of History Textbooks Across the Taiwan Strait," in which he compared how the Great Wall was introduced. In the newly revised textbooks in Taiwan, the Great Wall is introduced in a way that basically downplays the information contained in the history, but only in terms of the architecture. This in itself reflects the significance of our activities in promoting Chinese culture in Taiwan, which should be subtle, through very vivid and concrete examples to guide and educate the Taiwanese people, especially the young generation.

Culturally speaking, in terms of traditional Chinese culture, we are all the young generation, the later ones.

It is also very interesting to look at the Great Wall from the perspective of traditional Chinese paleography. In fact, the concept of the Great Wall did not appear until after the Qin Dynasty. The defense of the city had existed before, and the prototype of the city had existed in the Shang Dynasty, and it was basically a boundary demarcation in the earliest days. The first concept of the Great Wall was basically a demarcation of boundaries. The real concept of the Great Wall in its infancy was the word "jiang". In terms of hieroglyphics, the "field" in the Chinese character "疆" is a compacted piece of earth, and the two horizontal lines in the center are boards, or the kind of reeds or blocks we see on the Great Wall of Han Dynasty, which are padded up, layer by layer. Plate construction is the most traditional way to build a city in China, and in the 70's, when the rural wall was built, the oldest method was still used, with two door panels, tamped layer by layer, and then put on the reeds, layer by layer, and then the frontier was the earliest and the most traditional wall in China. Border, wall, from philology, is also a sound of the turn. Those concepts related to the frontier, including the field of the field and the wall of the city, are all in the form of plate construction. Therefore, the board, later on, was also called the plate. The meaning of a plate is the range and territory you control with a wall as a boundary. It can be said that the cultural connotations among the construction of our earliest Great Wall can be seen in what our forefathers created in the text. Even the word "bian" in traditional Chinese means "border", which refers to the high enemy towers with earthworks underneath, which can also stretch on forever. The ancient Great Wall, translated as "GREET WALL" in the West, is a very accurate translation. The Great Wall was first a wall, but later it became a boundary, which means a structure made of compacted earth on top and wood underneath. So now the boundaries of our borders are also directly related to the construction of a wall with rammed earth.

Many scholars believe that after the Great Wall was built, it was basically a demarcation between nomadic and agricultural peoples, or even a demarcation of lifestyles. It can even be said to be a kind of division of the way of life. Whether it is a division of the mode of production, a division of the way of life, a division of the race, in short, it is a kind of civilized state of existence, which is both a kind of separation and a kind of fusion. From the Warring States period, this kind of border in all parts of China, including the Warring States in the interior of China, there are also this kind of defensive borders, to the Qin, has a great political significance and cultural significance. Because, Qin as a kind of unification, "books with the same text, the same track", repair the Great Wall also want to unite the whole territory. In the Han Dynasty, the Hexi Corridor was basically a transportation line to maintain the Han Dynasty. The transportation line was to maintain the enclave, which enclave? Which enclave? The sandbar, Dunhuang. Dunhuang in turn was a Han settlement that controlled the entire western region. It was sandwiched between the Xiongnu to the north and the Northern Di to the south. The Great Wall of Hexi was built along the Hexi Corridor, a military transportation route, a supply route, and also a transportation route to Dunhuang, where the Great Wall maintained the Silk Road. This section of the Great Wall, we feel very different from the Ming Great Wall, in fact, a meaning - to stop the horse wall, because the nomads in the military is the most powerful horse. As we all know, after the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Wuling Wang Hu clothing mounted archery, the way of vehicle warfare has been abandoned, learn to use one person and a rider this tactic. This tactic of surprise ability is very strong, and nomadic people mainly rely on cavalry to conquer the farming nation. Build the Great Wall, undoubtedly, you can come over, but the horse can not pass, the horse can not pass, you have no combat power, you can not beat the Han Chinese infantry. This section of the Han Dynasty Great Wall in the Hexi Corridor served as a wall to stop the horses. The Ming Dynasty Great Wall is what we see now, it gives us the deepest impression that it is a cultural carrier, it is surrounded by human facilities, including folklore, religion, all aspects of humanities, many, many.

Another point is that the Great Wall policy of the Qing Dynasty is actually worth studying. The Qing Dynasty's policy was that "building a temple was better than raising 100,000 soldiers". Therefore, Chengde is the Qing Dynasty condensed a Great Wall, it is the spiritual Great Wall, is the Chinese people multi-ethnic integration of a Great Wall. I think the Qing Dynasty's ethnic policy was the most successful, and is in line with the idea of the Great Wall, and is a positive reflection of the idea of the Great Wall defense of the Chinese people for a long time - through the integration of ethnic groups.

To this day, when we go to study the Great Wall, we are trying to bring this spirit into play. The Great Wall is a symbol of the uninterrupted Chinese culture; a symbol of the Chinese nation's resistance to foreign invasion and its unyielding spirit; and a symbol of the unity and integration of the Chinese nation*** with the development of the Chinese nation. It is also a symbol of the ability of the Chinese people to change the world and create. I think these are the cultural significance of the Great Wall. Of course, it also has deeper cultural connotations, from archaeology, from culture, from history, including the difference between farming and nomadic, including geography, military, including transportation these aspects. There are many aspects of the Great Wall that need to be further developed, including the folklore of the Great Wall, the culture of the barracks, the local markets, the local religious beliefs, and the beliefs of the God of Guan (the ancient soldiers believed in the God of Guan). In addition, the military defense of the Great Wall had a first line and a second line in a hierarchical configuration. In fact, the ancient military thinking is the same as the modern military thinking, although the cold weapon and hot weapon are different. These aspects should be fully explored.

In short, the Great Wall provides us with a multi-directional vehicle, not a single one. Taiwan's youth generation, most of them read about the Great Wall from textbooks. How can we take Chinese culture and Chinese history, make it alive, and then connect that history to the present, and finally, integrate it into their thinking so that Chinese civilization can be passed on?

Now, China is in a state of development, and at the same time, it is affected by the international environment. Gu Yanwu made three inspiring remarks in his Treatise on Harnessing the Military. He said, "The degree of grandeur and justice is to open its heart toward transformation." Although you have built the Great Wall, there are times when you have to be open-minded and adopt a policy of openness, including the policy of treating the civilizations of the world with tenderness, and you have to open up your "heart towards transformation" and "be generous in the way of the great public". The second phrase is "to store up the power of unpredictability, in order to eliminate the deceitfulness of the first thing." It is active defense. If you don't have a defense, but have the power of unpredictability, you will be bullied, and the Great Wall also serves this purpose. The third sentence: "Strict and inevitable defense, to appease the scourge of their prying eyes." In my personal opinion, our new Great Wall spirit is, first of all, the spiritual value of the Chinese nation for 5,000 years of continuous development; secondly, our nation's new Great Wall spirit should be the strength of our comprehensive national power and comprehensive national defense; thirdly, our new Great Wall spirit should be an open and inclusive, a pluralistic, a spirit of integrating the development of modern world civilization. With these, our entire Great Wall culture will be able to endure, to keep up with the development of the times, so that the Chinese civilization in the world can carry forward

Thank you for my speech is over.
