From Xi'an to Lanzhou more than 100 years ago, he took these rare old photos

Born in Australia and graduated from the University of Edinburgh, Morrison (1862-1920) traveled overland from Shanghai to Rangoon, Burma in 1894, from Bangkok to Kunming in 1896, and then across the three eastern provinces the following year. In 1897, he became a correspondent for The Times in China and lived there for more than 20 years, experiencing and participating in many of the major events in modern Chinese history. In 1910, Morrison embarked on a six-month study tour of western China, starting from Xianyang in Shaanxi Province, passing through Gansu and entering Xinjiang, and traveling westward all the way to Kyrgyzstan, Russia. During this trip, Morrissey took a large number of photographs of northwestern China's human geography, which provided vivid and direct materials for understanding northwestern China at the end of the Qing Dynasty.
