What is a nonpolar solid dielectric?
Non-polar solid dielectrics have atomic crystals, such as diamond. Molecular crystals without polar groups, such as crystalline sulfur and naphthalene. Commonly used dielectrics in electrical engineering include: gas dielectrics including air, hydrogen and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), liquid dielectrics including transformer oil, oil and pure water, and solid dielectrics including mica, ceramics, rubber, paper and polystyrene. When the dielectric of an electric dipole is in an external electric field, an electric dipole will appear.
