How is Mars 500 simulated?

Wang Yue said that in the past year and a half, volunteers, like real space flight, formed an "astronaut" group, with the person in charge also called "commander" and other positions generally called engineers. The air pressure in the test cabin is normal. Volunteers in the cabin wear ordinary work clothes, but they also wear spacesuits with certain functions. If there are medical problems in the cabin, the personal experiment will be terminated when the clinicians in the cabin can't solve these problems. But the whole experiment will not end, even if there is only one person left.

Wang Yue also said that in the end, two people will be selected and have the opportunity to enter the Mars surface simulation module. One of them is from Russia, and the other may be from Europe or China, but it has not been disclosed yet.

Mars -500 mission

"Mars -500" is jointly sponsored by the Russian Space Agency and the European Space Agency, and the European side is responsible for part of the funds. In the 520-day experiment, seven volunteers will live in a simulated plane consisting of five sealed metal capsules. Wang Yue: In the simulation cabin, there is a cabin where fresh vegetables such as tomatoes can be planted. Vegetables are edible, which is not only an adjustment of food, but also an adjustment of life.

Wang Yue: You can't surf the Internet. Because the communication will be delayed for 40 minutes, it is difficult for the test cabin to contact the outside world once, and the mobile phone will definitely not work.

The private space of the house is only 3.4 square meters.

Reporter: What about the equipment of the "experimental cabin"?

Wang Yue: The ceiling and four walls in the cabin are all made of wood, so there are systematic requirements and training for fire prevention. My own space is very narrow, it is a small room with only 3.4 square meters, a bed, a locker and a table under the bed. But there is no camera in the room, and other rooms have cameras.

There are restrictions on bringing in personal belongings. Mobile phones, laptops with Internet access, dangerous knives and other communication equipment are not allowed. Everyone can carry a personal laptop.

Wang Yue: I prefer the traditional culture of China. I have prepared a Four Treasures of the Study to practice calligraphy and painting. In fact, this is also an experimental project of cross-cultural communication. We are also equipped with electronic guitars, drum sets and other instruments the size of a small orchestra. Wang Yue: In 520 days, there are more than 100 light experiment tasks. These tasks come from different countries and disciplines, and there will be repeated content, but new tasks will be injected every day.
