The moral of a square jar
The reason why the square pot is difficult to make is mainly because it needs traditional manual inlay and molding. First, it is made into mud, and then they are spliced together. Among them, there are several difficulties in the production process:
1, corner line is difficult to process.
The appearance of the teapot and the treatment from different angles will make the teapot show different temperament, which is difficult to grasp in the square pot. Acute angle generally means graceful and neat, obtuse angle is round and steady, and rounded corners are more charming.
Square pots are divided into four corners and eight corners, and each side is required to be flat and each diagonal line should be straight. This is still difficult to grasp, very difficult.
2, the flap is difficult to fire.
The teapot needs a flat lid and a tight rotation. Square pots have several basic shapes, such as rectangle, square, hexagon and octagon. Covers are roughly divided into embedded covers and gland covers, and there are differences between flat covers and virtual covers. Eight-sided and four-sided pot covers are more difficult to make than six-sided ones, rectangular pot covers are more difficult to make, and gland covers are more difficult to make than inlay covers.
Compared with round pots, the lid of square pots is more easily deformed when fired. The soft and hard collocation between pot cover, cover sheet, virtual sheet and sub-mouth must be mastered. This soft-hard relationship is not intact, and there is no clear norm. It's all about touch and experience.
Because of the different internal structure of the cover, the embedded cover and the gland must also have different treatment methods, otherwise it is easy to deform. When firing, if the mouth is too tight, it will hinder the contraction of the mouth and cover, and it will also be deformed. It is difficult to make a pot with a tight, flat lid and no renovation.
3, pot body splicing is difficult.
It is not easy to see joint marks at acute angles, but it is easy to see joint marks at obtuse angles and large rounded corners. This is because the greater the joint angle, the larger the gap will be, and this gap can only be filled with mud.
Therefore, when making a square pot, it is necessary to pat the mud chip hard, but the particle compactness of mud chip and mud material is different, and there will always be a little trace after firing.
The square pot is made by a method called "embedding in the tube". It can also be seen from the above difficulties that it is very difficult to make a square pot with confidence in estimating the shrinkage rate of the pot and the moisture in the mud. This is one of the reasons why there are not many pots on the market.
