Yancheng Protected Area is the largest protected area in China. Yancheng Protected Area is the largest coastal reserve in China, located in the central coast of Jiangsu Province, with a coastline of 582 kilometers and a total area of 453,300 hectares, of which the core area is 17,400 hectares, and the land rights belong to the protected area. The headquarters of the reserve is located in Xinyanggang Town, 54 kilometers east of Yancheng City. The management office of the reserve is a scientific research institution, under the triple leadership of the State Environmental Protection Administration, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Jiangsu Province and the Yancheng Municipal People's Government. It mainly protects rare wild animals such as Danding Cranes and the habitat that they depend on for their survival, i.e. the wetland ecosystem of the mudflat. The terrain of the reserve is flat, the altitude is 0-4 meters, the climate is mild, the average annual temperature is 13.7-14.6℃, the frost-free period is 210-224 days, the rainfall is 980-1070mm, the solar radiation is 116.2-121Kcal/cm2, and the disastrous weather is mostly typhoons, torrential rains, hailstorms and frosts. Historically, the ancient Yellow River and the Yangtze River have entered the sea at the north and south ends of the reserve, the Yangtze River and the Yellow River carry a large amount of sediment deposition to form the waste Yellow River delta, the northern end of the reserve coast erosion, the middle and south of the silt long, the whole area silt into land 900 hectares per year. The mudflats are narrow in the north and wide in the south, and the width of the mudflats can reach 15 kilometers. The reserve is the main catchment area of the Lishia River, and there are more than ten rivers flowing through the reserve into the sea. For example, the irrigation river, Zhongshan River, Biantan Harbor, Sheyang River, Huangsha Harbor, Xinyang Harbor, Doulong Harbor, Wang Harbor, Zhuhang Harbor, Chuandong Harbor, Liangliang River, Xingang Harbor, etc. The water of the upstream river flows down to the sea in the summer. It rains a lot in summer, and after the upstream river water is discharged, flooding of mudflats is formed, and drought is common in winter. In dry years, the tide level is low and the mudflats are often stunted due to lack of water. ? The biogeographic location of the reserve is located in the Huanghuai Plain subregion of the North China region of the Palearctic boundary, and the northern part of the reserve is adjacent to the North China region of the Eastern Ocean boundary, and the flora and fauna are mainly in the temperate zone. The reserve is one of the areas with very rich biodiversity, with 450 species of plants, 379 species of birds, 45 species of amphibious reptiles, 281 species of fish and 47 species of mammals in the area. Among them, there are twelve kinds of Class I wild animals under national key protection, such as Danding Cranes, White-headed Cranes, White Cranes, White Storks, Black Storks, Chinese Autumn Ducks, Relict Gulls, Great Bustards, White-shouldered Eagles, Golden Eagles, White-tailed Sea Eagles, White Sturgeons***, and 67 kinds of Class II wild animals under national key protection, such as the Roe Deer, Black-faced Spoonbills, Great Swans, Lesser Green-footed Sandpipers, Mandarin Ducks, Gray Cranes, Magpie Harriers, and Spotted Seals, etc. The area is rich in resources, which can be produced every year. The area is rich in resources and can produce more than one million quintals of reeds, more than one million tons of aquatic products annually, and nearly 300 tons of sandworms are exported annually. ? The reserve is the most critical area to save some endangered species, such as red-crowned cranes, black-billed gulls, roe deer, Aurora crows and so on. Every year, more than a thousand Danding Cranes come to the area for wintering, accounting for more than 40% of the world's wild population; more than a thousand Black-billed Gulls breed in the reserve; and more than a thousand Roe Deer live in the reserve's mudflats. Yancheng is also an important link connecting birds from different bioregions, an important stopover for migrating birds from Northeast Asia and Australia, and an important wintering place for waterfowl. Nearly 3 million shorebirds migrate through Yancheng every spring and fall, and more than 200,000 waterfowl overwinter in the reserve. The reserve is also one of the few areas in China with highly endangered species, and 29 species have been found to be listed in the Red Book of Endangered Species of the World Conservation Union. Therefore, Yancheng Protected Area occupies a very important position in biodiversity conservation. ?
