The Four Hakka States

The Hakka stronghold is generally considered to be the "Four Hakka States": Huizhou, Meizhou, Ganzhou and Tingzhou.

The Hakka prefectures of the Qing Dynasty were:

Huizhou Prefecture, Shaozhou Prefecture, Ganzhou Prefecture, Tingzhou Prefecture, Nan'an Prefecture (Pious), Ningdu Prefecture (Pious), Jiaying Prefecture (Meizhou), Longyan Prefecture (Zhangzhou), Nanxiong Prefecture (Shao), and Lianyang Prefecture (Shao) (ten prefectures in total).

The Hakka prefectures in the Song Dynasty were: Methodist Prefecture, Meizhou, Tingzhou, Pious Prefecture, Huizhou, Shaozhou, Yingzhou, and Guangzhou (eight prefectures in total).

In the Qing Dynasty, among the ten Hakka states and prefectures, Huizhou, Ganzhou, Tingzhou, and Jiaying (today's Meizhou) were the four major Hakka strongholds, or the "Four Hakka States".
