How long did it take to compile the new teaching materials for primary and secondary schools?

Recently, the Ministry of Education announced at a press conference that the Ministry of Education unified organization of the new compulsory education morality and the rule of law, language and history three subjects of teaching materials, will be September 1, 2017 the beginning of the autumn semester, in all areas of the country in the initial grades into use. These three subjects of teaching materials,**** took five years to compile.

Since 2012, the Ministry of Education unified organization of the preparation of these three subjects of teaching materials, over a period of five years to complete the compilation and review work. According to the requirements of unified compilation and use, and three years to achieve full coverage, in the fall semester of 2017, all regions of the country in the first grade of elementary school and the first grade of junior high school to use the unified teaching materials, in 2018 to cover the first and second grades of elementary school and junior high school, and in 2019 to use the unified teaching materials for all grades.

It is reported that the original character class at the compulsory education stage will be adjusted to morality and the rule of law, strengthening the education of Chinese outstanding traditional culture, revolutionary tradition education, rule of law education, education on the awareness of national sovereignty, education on national unity and other thematic content, and specially set up the Chinese dream, the overall concept of national security and other topics. In addition, morality and the rule of law elementary school sixth grade book and junior high school eighth grade book for the rule of law education, focusing on the Constitution.

The language textbooks have strengthened the content design of Chinese outstanding traditional culture, revolutionary tradition education and national sovereignty awareness education. There are 129 ancient poems in the primary language, accounting for about 30 percent of the total, and 132 selected ancient poems in the middle school language. In terms of revolutionary tradition education, the elementary school textbook has about 40 selections of revolutionary tradition such as Zhu De's Flat Stretcher and Golden Fish Hook, and the junior high school textbook has more than 30 selections of revolutionary tradition such as Memorial to Bai Kouen and Memories of My Mother.

The history textbook presents the content of socialist core values in different periods and stages, enabling students to recognize the historical origin and practical significance of socialist core values from the perspective of historical development and evolution, and to perceive and understand the connotation and embodiment of socialist core values.

The Ministry of Education said that after the unified textbook is put into use, it will be further improved and enhanced through tracking research and regular revision mechanism.
