Tips for using a bow and arrow

Handstyles for Cocking Arrows

There are two main handstyles for cocking arrows. One is the Mediterranean style, which is mainly popular in regions of the West where monopod bows are used. In this style, the bowstring is hooked with the index, middle and ring fingers, and the right hand hooks the string so that the arrow shaft is on the left side of the bow's handle. The second is the Mongolian style, which is mainly popular in the Eastern world where compound bows are commonly used. In this style, the thumb is used to hook the bowstring, the index and middle fingers are used to press the thumb, and the right hand is used to hook the string, so that the arrow shaft is on the right side of the bow. With the Mongolian style of string pulling, a ring must be attached to the thumb, known in ancient China as the "archer's thumb ring" and in later times as the "trigger finger". The rings are usually made of jade, bone or leather.

Archery

The bow is drawn with the center of the bow parallel to the line of sight. Holding the bow in your left hand and the arrow in your right, draw the string back horizontally and release it - the arrow will fly free and fast towards the target. Practice a lot. Put a few more arrows in your holster for quick bursts.

Preventing arrow abrasions

Many shooters find that arrows often abrade the skin on their cheeks and hands as they fly off the bowstring. Cover your cheeks with a bandana or other fabric, and wear leather wrist guards.

There are many types of bows and arrows, and they are used in different ways depending on their purpose. The more common ones are the longbow and the shortbow, and in ancient times they were divided into infantry bows and riding bows according to the type of soldier, and into light bows, hunting bows and strong bows according to their power. The most common stance when shooting a bow and arrow is to stand in a fixed shooting stance with the legs in a thong position, while leaning back fifteen degrees at the waist, holding the bow in the left hand, and then retrieving the arrow with the right hand. After retrieving the arrow, you should put the tip of the arrow on the bowstring, and at the same time, you should put the arrow on the arrow platform, the arrow should be tightly attached to the bow body, and should be balanced with the left arm, the right hand should be continuously and forcefully pull the bowstring backward, and wait until the bowstring is full, and then shoot the arrow according to the parabolic arc of the tilt out.
