Has traditional Chinese culture come to Sydney campus?
Sydney, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The first New Year's Eve performance hosted by the Sydney Chinese Cultural Center was held on Feb. 3 at Sydney High School Reichert Campus. The event was supported by the City of Sydney, Sydney's local cultural organization Chippendale Creative District***. The event was the first in a five-day series of Chinese folk culture performances and workshops. ***More than 120 students and teachers*** enjoyed and participated in the folklore performances and workshop experiences.
During the event, the students first enjoyed a performance of the Beichuan Grand Puppet, a rare world theater. The biggest feature of the puppet show is that the puppets are tall and well modeled to resemble real people. Under the skillful control of the performers, the puppets were able to tie capes, change faces and wave sleeves, and paint. The audience gasped and applauded throughout the 20-minute performance, which not only left a deep impression on everyone, but also kicked off a more exciting experience.
The workshop experience part of the program was a great opportunity for students to get hands-on experience. They traveled in small groups through the various experiential programs, learning about and savoring the charms of traditional Chinese culture with excitement and thrill. Throughout the activity site, some people were immersed in the beautiful images and delicate expressions of the characters in the New Year paintings; some people were obsessed with the fine and vivid, concise and diversified flowers, birds, fishes and insects in the noodle sculpture experience; some students, under the guidance of the teacher, experienced the various artistic effects portrayed in the techniques of trembling, lifting, stuttering and releasing in the production of sugar paintings; there were also students holding brushes and sketching out and designing their own New Year's lanterns; and there were also students cooperating with each other, operating the The students also work with each other to manipulate the beautifully dressed and handsome shadow actors, directing a lively and vivid shadow puppet show.
