Introduction to Painted Pictures of One Hundred Ghosts and Night Journeys (画图百鬼夜行)
The Painting of One Hundred Ghosts and Nights is the first series of works by the Japanese painter Toriyama Ishiyan, which was completed in the 5th year of the An Ei era (1781). The series consists of three parts: "Prelude to Yin", "Prelude to Yang" and "Prelude to Wind". The series mainly depicts supernatural figures, including ghosts, demons, spirits, and monsters, many of which were created by Toriyama Ishiyan based on Japanese literature, Japanese folklore, and Japanese traditional art. Many of these works have had a profound impact on later Japanese monster culture.
