What are the five stages of Schuber's theory of career development?

Schubert's career theory divides people's career development into five major stages as follows:

1, the growth stage (from 0 to 14 years old)

Experiencing the gradual growth of the career from curiosity, fantasy, to interest to consciously cultivate the career ability process.

He divided this stage into three growth periods:

Fantasy period (before the age of 10): children perceive many occupations from the outside world, and fantasize and imitate the occupations that they find interesting and love.

Interest period (11-12 years old): centered on interest, children understand and evaluate careers and begin to make career choices.

Ability period (13-14 years old): They begin to consider whether their own conditions are compatible with their favorite occupations, and consciously develop their abilities.

2. Exploration stage (from 15 to 24)

Choosing a career, first employment. It can also be divided into 3 periods.

Experimental period (from 15-17 years old): comprehensively recognize and consider their own interests, abilities and occupational social values, employment opportunities, and begin to make attempts to choose a career.

Transitional period (18-21 years old): choose to receive specialized professional and vocational training or check the labor market.

The period of experimentation (22-24 years old): choosing a field of work and starting a career.

3. Establishment phase (from 25-44 years of age is the phase of establishing a stable career)

There are two periods. Experimentation period (25-30 years old): Dissatisfied with the initial employment, the person chooses and changes his/her occupation. The number of changes varies from person to person. It is also possible to be satisfied with the initial choice of occupation without changing.

Stabilization period (31-44 years old): the final career is decided and the person starts to work on a stable job.

4. Maintenance stage. In the long period of time from 45 to 64 years old, workers generally reach what is often called the scenario of success, no longer consider changing careers and work, but only strive to maintain the achievements and social status.

5. Stage of Decline (65 years old and above)

As physiological and psychological functions decline, the weight of one's occupational role gradually diminishes, and one begins to think about retiring and enjoying one's old age.

We note that in the exploratory stage between the ages of 15 and 24, the main tasks of career planning are to recognize one's own interests, abilities and the social value of a career, to learn about employment opportunities, and to receive specialized professional and vocational training.
