There are many kinds of Nuo masks with different shapes, all of which are carved from willow and camphor wood, and then painted, which looks rough, simple and magnificent.

Nuo mask is one of the traditional crafts in China, and its Nuo masks in eastern Hunan and Luxi inherited the Nuo carving skills in Song Dynasty.

In May 2006, the Nuo masks in Pingxiang and Xiangdong were listed as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage. Lai Mingde Chu Shi, the creator of 440 Nuo masks, is the inheritor of "Nuo carving skills in Song Dynasty passed down from three generations" in the project description. These 440 Nuo masks were later collected by Anyuan Film and Television City in Pingxiang City. After the successful application for Nuo masks, the local government developed and protected Nuo masks, and Peng was selected as the first batch of Nuo sculpture inheritors in the Nuo culture inheritor protection base and the representative inheritor of the provincial intangible heritage project Pingxiang Xiangdong Nuo masks.
