Research process
Research 1: Western weddings are of the romantic type, and the whole wedding is full of romantic atmosphere from the beginning to the end. The whole wedding is full of romance from the beginning to the end. The bride's dress is usually white and the groom's is black, making the whole wedding solemn and serious. Going to the church for the wedding ceremony is the most important part of the wedding. First, to the rhythm of the wedding march, the bride walks to the groom on the hand of her father, who hands her over to him. The priest asks the bride and groom to make a lifelong commitment to each other, which is the highlight of the wedding. They will then exchange wedding rings and kiss each other with the blessing of the priest and the congregation. The bouquet in the bride's hand is no ordinary decoration. At the end of the wedding, the bride throws it to the female guests, and if anyone receives the bouquet, he or she will be the next to get married, which makes the whole wedding end in laughter.
Research 2: Chinese weddings are different from the West, the main color of the wedding is red, which is also the traditional Chinese representative of the color of joy. This also makes the wedding a joyful one. In a traditional wedding, the bride wears a red robe, a phoenix crown and a red silk scarf. The groom wears a red long coat and a red hat. The bride rides a red sedan chair in the back, the groom rides a horse in the front, along with the bride and bridegroom welcome team to the groom's home to pay homage. Both parents sit in the upper hall, while the bride and groom are married in the lower hall. The entire wedding is presided over by a master of ceremonies, under whose direction the bride and groom pay homage to heaven and earth and to the next hall, and then the couple pays homage to each other and is sent to the bridal chamber. Cave is the climax of the wedding, the bride first back to the cave to wait for the groom, and the groom on the outside to entertain guests, after a full meal, the groom in a large number of people surrounded by the cave. The crowd began to make trouble in the cave, the bride and groom in everyone's coaxing to do a variety of games ...... so that the whole wedding in a laughter in the end.
Through the study of the differences between Chinese and Western weddings, I learned about their respective characteristics: Western weddings are pure and romantic, while Chinese weddings are joyful; Western weddings emphasize the feeling, while China emphasizes the ceremony. China and the West due to their different customs, also formed a wedding customs have their own characteristics. Although there are different customs, but no matter where the wedding is full of blessings and laughter.

With China's accession to the WTO, the exchanges between China and the West are getting closer and closer, and in order to better understand and learn the Western customs and culture, strengthen the study of Chinese and Western history, and achieve the purpose of expanding the eyes of students. We then proposed this topic.
Through the study of Chinese and Western customs and culture, we can understand the Western history more comprehensively, learn their advantages, and achieve the purpose of making up for the shortcomings. At the same time, through the study of the subject, we can also cultivate our social practice ability, laying a foundation for us to step into the workplace in the future.
Our project is based on the main line of weddings, through the comparison of the similarities and differences between Chinese and Western weddings, so as to reflect the differences between the different races in China and the West.
First of all, there is the traditional wedding ceremony. The traditional Chinese wedding rituals include "three books and six rites" and "three bows and nine kowtows". The so-called "three books", that is to say, the book of appointment, the book of rites, welcome the book of marriage. (Book of Hire: the book of engagement, men and women formally conclude the marriage contract. Naji (over Wen Ding) with. The Book of Rites: The book of gifts, i.e., the list of gifts, detailing the types and quantities of gifts. It is used when the Naji (over the big gift) is used. The Book of Marriage: The book of welcoming the bride. It is used on the day of the wedding when the bride is taken to the door (for welcoming the bride). The "Six Rites" are: Nacai, asking for the name, Naji, Naji, Inviting the bride to the wedding, and welcoming the bride in person. (Nacai: In ancient times, at the beginning of the wedding ceremony, when the woman's side was desired, a matchmaker was invited to make plans, which was called Nacai, and is now known as "proposing marriage". Asking for a name: The man asks the woman's name and birthdate in order to divine good fortune, known as asking for a name, and nowadays it is called "combining the eight characters". Naji: If the questioning of the name is auspicious, a matchmaker is sent to give a small gift, which is called Naji, nowadays known as "passing through Wending" or "Xiao Ding". Najing: The formal gift of money, gift cakes, gifts and offerings is called Najing, and is now known as "passing the rite of passage". Invitation: The man's family invites a fortune-teller to choose a date, which is called the invitation, also known as "begging for a date" or "choosing a date" today. Welcome: the bridegroom in a gift car, to go to the woman's home to meet the bride, known as the welcome.) In between, there are a series of activities, such as changing the genealogy, going through the Wending, going through the rite of passage, and settling the bed, etc. In these activities, there are a lot of things to do. And in these activities have a large number of taboos and rituals, such as the bride's dowry should have scissors (butterflies fly), spittoon (children and grandchildren bucket), ruler (ten thousand hectares of good land), piece of sugar (sweet honey), silver purse belt (waist ten thousand), vase (flowers bloom), copper basin and shoes (together with the old), dragon and phoenix quilt, bed sheets and a pair of pillows, two pairs of chopsticks and bowls (with food and clothing), seventy-two sets of clothing, with Bianbai, lotus seeds, longan and liyi accompanied by (abundant food and clothing) and other items, each of which has its own different meaning. At the same time, there is a certain order when the wedding is carried out, according to the general situation, in the whole wedding process there are: ancestor worship (the male party before going out to welcome the bride, first worship ancestors.) , Departure (to welcome the bride caravan to the even number is better.) , burning guns (welcome the bride train on the way, should be all the way to firecrackers to celebrate.) Waiting for the groom (when the limousine arrives at the woman's home, there will be a boy waiting for the groom with a tea tray, and after the groom gets off the limousine, the boy should be rewarded with a red packet in exchange for a gift, and then enter the woman's home). The bridegroom should hold a bouquet of flowers to the bride to be married in the room, at this time, the bride's girlfriends to stop the groom, not allowed to see the bride, the woman can put forward conditions to the groom to agree to, through the only way to enter. The bride should bow to her parents to say goodbye, and her father should put the veil on her head, while the groom should only bow and salute. The bride should be escorted to the limousine by a bamboo sieve or a black umbrella held by the female elders of the bride's wealth and virtue, because the bride's status on the wedding day is greater than anyone else's, and therefore she must not compete with the heavens for the throne. The bride's parents should spread a bowl of water and rice behind the car, representing that the daughter has been poured out of the water, and everything afterward will never be asked again, and wishing the daughter success in all her endeavors, and food and clothing). Throwing the fan (after the limousine starts, the bride should throw the fan out of the window, meaning that she will not bring her bad nature to her in-laws' home, and the fan will be picked up by the bride's brother, who must cry a few times after throwing the fan and cover the "bamboo sieve" after the limousine in order to symbolize prosperity). The bride's brother must cry a few times after throwing the fan and cover the "bamboo sieve" behind the limousine to symbolize prosperity. Touching oranges (when the caravan arrives at the groom's home, a child holding an orange or apple will greet the newlyweds, and the bride will touch the oranges gently and give them a red packet in exchange for a gift. These two oranges are put on the night, so that the bride can peel them herself, which means to attract "longevity"). Holding the bride (when the bride walks out of the limousine, the man should hold a bamboo sieve over the bride's head and help the bride to enter the hall. The bride and groom should never step on the threshold of the door, but should cross it instead). The wedding banquet (nowadays it is quite popular to combine Chinese and Western weddings, most of the guests in the evening banquet at the same time to hold the ceremony, in the wedding banquet, the bride can remove the bridal gown, change into evening dress to the tables one by one toasting). The bride may remove her bridal gown and change into her evening gown to toast each table one by one. The wedding ceremony is held at the entrance of the house, and the bride and groom must carry a tea tray with cigarettes and candies. On the third day after the wedding, the bride, accompanied by her son-in-law, brings a roasted pig and gifts back to her mother's home to pay homage to her ancestors, and even stays there for a short period of time before returning home with her son-in-law. The bride is accompanied by her son-in-law on the third day after the wedding. We can see the tediousness of our culture, but do not think that tediousness is a unique feature of our wedding, in fact, although different countries have different wedding customs, but from the complicated details and supplies of the metaphor, can be seen on the respect and expectations of marriage regardless of national boundaries. In Western countries, there are wedding customs such as Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue. Something Old refers to the wedding dress, headdress or jewelry passed down from the mother, representing all the good things to bear; Something New refers to gifts from friends such as dresses, accessories, symbolizing a new life; Something Borrowed refers to borrowing something back from anyone, and it is said that gold or silver borrowed from wealthy relatives or friends to put in the shoes, symbolizing the bringing of wealth; Something Blue refers to some of the bride's trinkets or bouquets of flowers with the color blue, which means that the bride's purity and chastity. There are also a large number of customs in the West when it comes to weddings. For example, the bride always carries a handkerchief at the time of marriage, and Westerners believe that a white handkerchief symbolizes good luck. According to folklore, farmers believed that the tears shed by the bride on the day of her wedding would cause manna to fall from the sky and nourish the family crops. Later, the tears shed by the bride on the day of her wedding hanky became a good omen that she would have a happy marriage. And during the wedding ceremony, the bride always stands on the left side of the groom, it is said that in ancient times, Anglo-Saxon grooms had to protect their brides from being snatched away by others. During the wedding ceremony, the bridegroom has the bride stand on his left side, so that once the enemy appears, he can immediately swing the sword, which is attached to the right side, to scare off the enemy. When the wedding dinner is conducted, the wedding cake should be specially customized. According to history, since the Roman times, at the end of the wedding, people would break a loaf of bread over the bride's head to symbolize the material ---- wheat symbolizes fertility, and the bread crumbs represent good luck. The newcomer must be icing, it forms today's wedding cake. This shows that the Western wedding customs are not more concise than the Chinese.
Secondly, in terms of clothing. In the conduct of the wedding not only have rituals and customs need to comply with, in the dress also has to pay attention to. Traditional Chinese weddings are conducted with the bride and groom wearing red dresses, symbolizing good luck and heralding a prosperous life after marriage. In the West, the bride wears a white dress. Since Roman times, the color white has symbolized joy, and between 1850 and 1900, it was also a symbol of wealth and prosperity. By the turn of the century, the color white symbolized purity more than anything else. In the West, the color white was associated with virginity. Ancient Roman brides wore white wedding dresses covered with bright orange veils, symbolizing the flames of passion. In the Catholic tradition in the West, the color white represents joy; in other regions, the color white indicates a variety of access ceremonies and meanings in their weddings and funerals. In the Andaman Islanders, for example, the color white represents a change in status. The "traditional" white wedding dress was, in the early days, the privilege of the nobility. In Queen Doria's time, most brides were confined to traditional state attire, and only the upper classes were allowed to wear white wedding dresses, which represented power and status. Only the upper class could wear white wedding dresses, which represented power and status. It was only in modern times, when the privileges of the aristocracy disappeared, that white wedding dresses became the dresses for ordinary brides. Compared to the history of white wedding dresses in the West, the history of the big red phoenix gown in Chinese weddings is simpler. The dragon and phoenix have an important place in Chinese mythology. The dragon is the yang and the phoenix is the yin, while the yang represents the man and the yin means the woman. Therefore the bride is represented by the phoenix. So it is easy to understand that the phoenix is embroidered on the red gown.
There are also some minor customs that are similar between Chinese and Western wedding customs. For example, in ancient China, there is the custom of throwing an embroidered ball to welcome the bride; while in the West, the bride and groom will throw the flowers in their hands into the air after the wedding ceremony in the church, and if someone receives it, it will be a sign that he will be married soon.
The differences between Chinese and Westerners in wedding customs are directly related to the differences in thinking between Chinese and Westerners. Chinese people are more conservative, like lively, thinking is more ancient, so in the history of China for thousands of years the whole wedding customs did not change much. Until the introduction of Western culture in modern times, China's traditional culture began to transform to the West, but to a large extent there are traditional Chinese wedding etiquette. The lively character of Chinese people can be fully reflected in the traditional Chinese wedding. In addition to the wedding dinner, which is common in both China and the West, there is also a wedding luncheon for the bride's farewell party in traditional Chinese wedding customs. Secondly, after the wedding banquet is over, the couple's friends and family will go to the new room to make a scene. It is believed that the more lively the room is, the happier the couple will be after the wedding. Therefore, the members of the bridal party will do everything they can to make things difficult for the bride and groom. Westerners are more open-minded, for the wedding requirements are also relatively low, the climax of their wedding is in the church: with the sacred "Wedding March" into the bright red carpet, the beautiful bride hand in hand with her father holding a rose slowly to the groom, the bride's father will be his daughter's hand on the groom's hand, will be his daughter's life entrusted to you, the eyes of all the people watching the couple, happy overflowing in their faces. She is the most beautiful bride of the day. Over the sacred church, their vows echoed, with the wedding ring of eternal love, only until the priest said: "You may kiss your bride ...... Marriage is a lifelong covenant for which you are to hold fast to your vows for the rest of your life. The Lord Jesus said, Those whom God has joined together cannot be separated. This lifelong love is perfect because of today." Then the bride and groom either go to a dinner venue or go on their honeymoon without all the rituals of a traditional Chinese wedding. Another reason for the difference between China and the West is the different religions. China is predominantly Buddhist, while the West is predominantly Christian. Therefore, in the West, weddings are held in churches and the celebrant is a priest. The most important part of a traditional Chinese wedding is the worship of heaven and earth, after which the ceremony is complete.
In summary, the differences between Chinese and Western weddings are mainly due to the different cultural and historical backgrounds of China and the West. Under the influence of different ideas and customs, they have evolved slowly. At the same time, under the influence of religion and myth, a variety of small customs and habits gradually formed in the wedding process.
The perception and experience
The differences between Chinese and Western cultures and customs
Shaw 慜
China is one of the four great ancient countries, with a long and splendid civilization, looking at the five thousand years of Chinese history. Since Emperor Yan Huang broke the dragon race to build the Huaxia race, the Dragon's heir has nurtured a remarkable culture on the land of God.
First of all, in the clothing, Yin Shang, Qin and Han, Wei, Jin, North and South Dynasties, Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties all have their unique clothing characteristics. According to its role is divided into court dress, coronation dress, silkworm dress, temple dress, dress and so on.
Secondly, in terms of food, Chinese cuisine has a long history and has become the national treasure of China, spreading all over the world. The Chinese food has become the symbol of Chinese food and is welcomed by the whole world.
Then there are the customs, which are very complicated in ancient China. For a wedding alone, there are three books and six rituals and other regulations, and within them there are farewells, going out, throwing a fan ...... Various customs reflect the longevity of Chinese culture, which has gradually evolved over a long period of time.
Western countries such as Europe and the United States, also has a long history. In the specific environment of the West in the cultivation, the birth and China's distinctive culture.
First of all, in terms of clothing, Western clothing is more complex, more ornate, and more colorful than the Chinese fight. Compared with the Chinese clothing, reflecting the strong feelings of the West, thinking more advanced than the contemporaries of the Chinese, while the Chinese embodied the traditions of the Orient: simple, conservative, introverted.
Secondly, in terms of diet, Westerners eat wheat as their staple, and bread, milk and all kinds of meat as their staple. The Orientals, on the other hand, are rice-based and eat a vegetarian diet. These differences originate from the geographical and demographic differences between the East and the West, while Westerners use coffee as a beverage, unlike Chinese tea, coffee has a stronger flavor, stronger taste, in line with the character traits of Westerners
Lastly, in terms of customs, the Chinese people prefer red in weddings, which represents joy and good fortune. And Westerners prefer white to set off the true love. Compared to Westerners, it is more reflective of the conservatism of the Chinese.
Through all these comparisons, the differences between Chinese and Western culture and customs can be roughly listed and compared, and it can be concluded that the cultural differences between Chinese and Westerners come from the different character traits of Chinese and Westerners.
After this research practice, it grows our knowledge, expands my vision, broadens our horizons, increases our accumulation of experience, develops our ability, and is of great benefit to our growth.
Research on Chinese and Western Culture and Customs (Wedding Clothes)
Shen Xi
Cultural customs of the East and the West are very different in every aspect, but of course there are also similarities or similarities. After this semester's study, I have found out a lot about the differences between Chinese and Western cultures and customs regarding wedding ceremonies.
Now I'll give you some examples:
For example, France is known for its romance, known as the white marriage, white is the color of the romantic French weddings; in the Philippines, the guests of honor will take turns to dance with the bridegroom, and money pinned to their clothes, and sometimes relatives and friends of the two sides will also be competing to see which side gets the most money. Korea's wedding costumes are also quite distinctive, it is worth mentioning - "two points", the bride Korean groom will wear a large dress, the bride's wedding dress is a colorful silk dress, with long sleeves and black silk crown, which I think is quite similar to the Arabian wedding costumes, because the Arabian bride will be wearing a gorgeous dress, and the bride will be wearing the same dress, which is very similar to the Arabian wedding dress, because the Arabian bride will be wearing a gorgeous dress. Because the Arabian bride will wear a gorgeous Turkish long-sleeved robe, the difference is that the lady will see the ceremony in accordance with the custom of the bride's wedding and weeping, so the Arabian wedding is also known as "mourning", of course, this has nothing to do with what I am talking about the dress.
Clothing is a status symbol, a symbol, which represents the political and social status of the individual, so that everyone is subject to their own, can not be replaced. Therefore, since ancient times, the king for the first, clothing is very important one, clothing system can be completed, the political order is also completed part. Therefore, people categorized the costumes into men's costumes and women's costumes, which is of course the minimum. The so-called coronation dress is one kind of men's dress, is the most grand ceremony dress, from the son of heaven to the hundred officials all wear it. This is similar to our women's clothing in the taboo clothes. For the second after the coronation dress for the second class dress for the court dress ......
Clothing is the product of the times update, clothing with the forward development of the trend and push the new. Clothing of Chinese and Western cultures is a topic that is always worth studying.
Research on Chinese and Western culture and customs (wedding customs)
Bao Jun
Chinese culture and customs have a long history. After this period of time combined with the study of Western culture and customs, I know more about the culture and customs of the world, and know more about the world. I also get a lot of fun from it. The wedding customs, for example, are really enjoyable in their own way.
When it comes to traditional Chinese weddings, people will think of some of the "three worships and nine kowtows" and these complicated etiquette, while the exotic wedding customs? People in addition to think of the wedding dress, the church, the pastor outside, there will not be much impression. But because of the national, cultural differences, so that the wedding customs around the world are showing a lot of different, but it is these colorful, colorful wedding habits constitute a bright landscape in human society.
Traditional Chinese wedding customs, from the whole process of marriage has 15 processes, first the man to worship ancestors, and then set off to marry, along the way to set off firecrackers to celebrate. The woman also has great rules when she gets married. It looks like they're all going to be busy all day.
There is also a unique traditional Chinese wedding custom called "Sanchao Hui Men", which means that three days after the wedding, the bride, accompanied by her husband, goes back to her mother's home with a roasted pig and gifts to pay homage to her ancestors, and even stays there for a short time before returning home with her husband.
In the West also have their characteristics, such as Greece to sugar in the gloves, the Greek bride back in the gloves to put some sugar, on behalf of the sweetness into the wedding eye life. The Greeks like to entertain their guests with a traditional national dance during the wedding. As part of the wedding program, the choir leader instructs the groom to protect his wife and the bride taps the groom's foot as a sign of respect. The bride and groom wrap sugar-coated lentils in tulle and distribute them to the guests to symbolize abundance and prosperity.
It seems the culture has a long history.
The study of Chinese and Western culture and customs (wedding customs)
Chen Jingjuan
Culture and customs have a long history. The study of Chinese and Western cultures and customs is of great significance. Through the study in the last semester, I realized that Chinese and Western cultures are very different from each other.
Through online search, book collection and expert interviews, we have obtained a lot of information about Chinese and Western culture and customs. In particular, we gained a deeper understanding of wedding customs.
Chinese wedding customs still maintain the traditional style. Weddings pay attention to the rehearsal, a series of pre-wedding rituals is even more dazzling: three books and six rituals, change the geng spectrum, over Wending, over the ceremony, bed, dowry, on the head, welcome the bride ...... Some people in some parts of the country are very concerned about this custom, to get married, then the pre-wedding procedures can not be less. Fifty-six nationalities, fifty-six customs, for the same ritual, have different ways of treatment. Such as marriage proposals, marriage ceremonies ......
Western wedding customs are romantic, the wedding focus on rituals and do not care about rehearsals. Pre-wedding etiquette is not so complicated. Everything is love relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. And marriage in the western countries are also countries have their own unique way. For example: France's white as the main color of the wedding. Whether it is decorated with flowers, or the bride's clothing. Can be seen in the eyes of the French marriage should be pure and unadulterated, and the new couple with the cup, also has a specific name, called "Coupdemarriage", meaning "wedding cup. The German "madness" and the Germans have always been lofty sanity and calm different. Their weddings show more of the crazy side. Germans in the wedding will hold a party (party), party, the new couple will be teased. This is similar to our Chinese "caveman", the main program is to gleefully throw the plate broken ...... West to the Orient is probably the highlight of the church wedding, along with the sacred "Wedding March", into the bright red carpet, the beautiful bride hand in hand with her father, holding the bride's hand, the bride's hand in hand with her father, the bride's hand in hand with her father, the bride's hand in hand with her father. The bride is holding her father's hand, holding a rose slowly toward you. The father of the bride put his daughter's hand on your hand, the daughter's life entrusted to you, with the eternal wedding ring ...... This scene is very different from the Chinese "three kneeling six kowtow".
Cultural customs are a constant theme, the wedding is the essence of the theme. Through this study of Chinese and Western wedding customs, my eyes are more open.
Experiencing Chinese and Western customs
Zhu Wei
China has a long history. Weddings have been practiced for about 2,000 years!
There are many different wedding ceremonies. There is ancestor worship before the man goes out to meet the bride, first to worship ancestors. Departure to meet the bride convoy to an even number is preferred, in the way to meet the bride train column, should be on the roadside firecrackers to celebrate.
In the car to the woman's home, there will be a boy with a tea tray waiting for the groom, the groom out of the car, should be rewarded the boy red packet gift. In the female home, the groom should hold a bouquet to the room to be married to the bride. At this time, the bride's girlfriends to stop the groom, not allowed to see the bride, may put forward conditions to the groom promised to pass before entering, and then have to pay goodbye. Out the door, limousine, throwing fan, firecrackers, touching the thrift (to welcome the new caravan arrived at the groom's home, by a child with a tangerine or apple to meet the newcomers, the bride to lightly touch a tangerine, and give a gift of red packets to answer the gift. These two oranges to be put in the evening, so that the bride personally peeled, meaning that the attraction of "longevity") hold the bride, wedding banquet, send off guests, the cave and so on.
In addition to the above, there are three books and six rites: the book of engagement, the book of rites, the book of marriage, the natsui, the question of each naji, naji, the invitation period, and welcome.
There are also a number of rituals at weddings, such as: eating bananas, lighting matches, pinning bombs, poetry competitions, couple literacy, and so on.
Through this research, I realized that Chinese etiquette is really too complicated, and thus I can also find out how long the culture of China is.
The study of Chinese and Western culture and customs
Zhao Ci-Ping
China has a history of more than 5,000 years, and thus has formed its own unique culture and customs, while the West in the period of rapid development at the same time, has also formed its own characteristics of culture. With the increasing exchanges between China and the West, the differences between the customs of China and the West are becoming more and more obvious.
The study of the differences between Chinese and Western customs is the purpose of our research. The focus of our study is weddings. Weddings are of great significance in both China and the West, and are therefore very solemn. Chinese weddings are more complicated in comparison. First, after the marriage contract is finalized, the man's family chooses an auspicious day for the wedding. The man has to send clothes, jewelry, wine, etc., which is a small gift, and before that there is a big gift. Traditional wedding customs have three books and six rites, change the geng spectrum, over the big ceremony, bed, dowry, on the head, to welcome the bride ...... This is to complete a wedding, while the West is much simpler. Men and women first engaged, decorate the new house, prepare for the wedding, enter the church and that's it.
Mention of Chinese weddings, the first thing that comes to mind is the joyful, everywhere is red, wearing a phoenix crown, draped in Xia Phi, covered with a red scarf sitting in the sedan chair of the bride and the groom riding a horse. The western wedding is more romantic. White wedding dress, straight suit, white balloon and solemn promise.
These all reflect the difference between China and the West, the joy of China and the romance of the West ....... Through the study of some of these, we on the Chinese and Western wedding from emotional to rational, about which also have a lot of their own feelings along with. We also have a more three-dimensional understanding of Chinese and Western wedding customs. This has also achieved the purpose of this research.
Marriage in China and the West
Yao Juanjuan
The "Three Books and Six Rites" is a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony. The six rites are the six ceremonies to be practiced when marrying a wife, and the three books are the documents to be possessed when practicing the six rites, as well as the written records that guarantee the validity of the marriage.
The purpose of traditional Chinese marriages is mainly to broaden the family, multiply descendants, and to maintain and improve the family's prestige and status. Since marriage adds a woman with a foreign surname to the family, the male family is particularly careful in choosing a daughter-in-law so as not to dishonor the family. Therefore, family marriages are far more important than individual wives. Marriage is regarded as a family matter, not a personal matter, and love between a man and a woman is not the primary basis for marriage. Marriages are solemnized by the parents, openly arranged by a third party, and through ceremonies and procedures, which are known as "parental order," "marriage by matchmaking," and "the right match" (ibid.). This is the definition of the so-called "order of the parents", "marriage by mutual consent" and "the right match". In addition, in the early society, besides "explicit marriage", there were also the ways of marriage such as concubinage, marriage to a family member and child bride.
Theoretically, concubinage requires the permission of the husband to have a second wife, but in fact the woman has no choice:
Westerners have a very open attitude towards marriage. Marriage is not the final destination of love, and people often use "cohabitation" as a way of finding out if the other person is really capable of being a permanent companion. In addition, marriage is not a parental decision; men and women are married through love, and blind marriages are rare.
The purpose of marriage is different for men and women. In China, the purpose of traditional marriage is to preserve and enhance the prestige and status of the family, but in the West, it is the hope that their love affair will lead to a happy ending. Their weddings do not take the traditional Chinese ceremony, but also in the church. It is more romantic and less constrained than the traditional Chinese wedding.
Oh! The original enough knowledge of the wide range of me, I do not know the Chinese and Western customs also have such a misunderstanding. Different histories, different societies, different cultural backgrounds create different customs, the world's culture is esoteric, mysterious, colorful, the times in the development of culture will also develop, only always keep learning, in order to understand China to catch up with the trend of the world, listed in the vanguard of the times.
