What are the similarities and differences between Cthulhu mythology and Greek mythology?
The creator of the Cthulhu mythos was Lovecraft, who was later nicknamed Lovecraft. The Cthulhu mythological system is part of Norse mythology, in which there are very few gods, mostly behemothic, horrific monsters.
These monsters are large, vague, and have no idea what they look like. Looking at Cthulhu mythology can cause a deep sense of fear, because you don't know what this thing across the street is? What does it look like?
It's scary when you don't know, like when we were kids and our parents told us to be careful when we go out and don't talk to strangers or we'll meet bad people. In fact, not seeing the bad guy is the most frightening, because in the mind will imagine him as all kinds of horror, horrible face, horrible eyes, horrible gestures, etc..
But when the bad guy really appear will not feel so horrible, because you see his real appearance, the mind first time will think of running, or think of ways to deal with him, but it is the unknown time is the most terrible.
This is what the Cthulhu mythological system is all about, in front of these unknown monsters humans are as small as ants, so weak that they could be destroyed by these cosmic monsters at any time.
All in all, watching Cthulhu mythology makes one feel bad and involuntarily lament the future fate of mankind.
But looking at Greek mythology is different, we can see from many oil paintings that the gods in Greek mythology are very beautiful. They had white skin and beautiful faces, just like people.
Though they were gods, they had personalities just like people, they had emotions, they could fall in love with a god, a human or an animal. These gods also give birth to children, and they are like mothers nurturing their children as they grow.
Gods make mistakes just like humans do, and the gods in Greek mythology would make it seem like their behavioral habits are no different from humans except for the fact that they have wings and magic powers.
So the Greek myths are closer to people and don't scare them. The Cthulhu myths are much scarier, and people are so small in front of the gods.
