School-running Characteristics of Translation College of Qufu Normal University

Undergraduate students have different training directions. At the beginning of its establishment, Translation College has established the concept of "people-oriented, teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, facing the future and developing in an all-round way". On the basis of traditional majors, our college strives to broaden the professional caliber and strengthen the construction of compound and applied majors and directions that can reflect the characteristics of our college's applied English, interdisciplinary, highly integrated and wide in knowledge. Therefore, in the autumn of 2007, the college began to implement a targeted training plan for second-year undergraduates, which is divided into three major directions: translation, business English and English education on the basis of students' voluntary choice. Aiming at the three directions, teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, highlighting their characteristics and developing their specialties have been affirmed by relevant school leaders and functional departments and welcomed by students.

Direction of English education

This major is oriented by the social demand for educational talents in the 2 1 century, guided by modern educational concepts, people-oriented and teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, aiming at cultivating new middle school English teachers. Pay attention to improving students' comprehensive quality and cultivate their teaching practice ability to adapt to the increasingly fierce competition in the education market. Training mode: (1) In addition to basic and professional courses, courses such as English teaching theory, middle school English teaching method, teachers' vocational skills training and courseware making are offered for students to improve their basic theories and skills as teachers; (two) contact the practice base of primary and secondary schools, regularly organize students to attend lectures, write lesson plans, correct homework and extracurricular counseling activities, so that students can integrate theory with practice in time and consolidate their knowledge; (3) Organize students to watch CDs of national top-quality courses and learn advanced classroom teaching experience of outstanding teachers; (4) Organize students to observe local high-quality course competitions and accumulate indirect teaching experience; (5) Invite excellent middle school teachers to give reports on how to teach English well, how to become an excellent English teacher and how to do a good job as a class teacher. Invite outstanding teachers inside and outside the department to give special reports on professional ethics, teachers' quality, teaching plan design and new curriculum standards to improve students' comprehensive learning skills; (6) Organize a variety of English learning skills activities, such as English speech contest, calligraphy contest (chalk and pen calligraphy contest), English song concert, Putonghua test, English pronunciation test, etc. Enrich students' spare time life and improve their interest in learning English.

English translation direction

This direction aims at cultivating innovative specialized translators engaged in interpretation, translation, foreign-related secretarial work, foreign economy and foreign trade. Training mode: (1) Optimize the course design, select excellent translation course resources, and set up core courses such as English-Chinese translation theory and practice, Chinese-English translation theory and practice, interpretation theory, interpretation practice, application and production of translation software on the basis of basic courses and professional courses, so as to standardize the course setting. (2) Make a detailed and thorough teaching plan, pay equal attention to theory and practice, highlight the application, practicability and practicality of this direction, strengthen the interaction between teachers and students in teaching, urge students to combine theory and practice in time, consolidate what they have learned and improve their translation practice ability; (3) Make full use of Rizhao's advantages as an open coastal city, and organize students to participate in various related social practice activities such as the World Sailing Competition and the Tea Fair in an organized and step-by-step manner to improve their professional and social practice ability; (4) Developing and constructing practice bases and organizing practice activities; (5) On the premise of successfully completing the teaching task, organize students to participate in translation competitions at all levels, set up student organizations such as "Translation Association", broaden their horizons, strengthen exercise, and comprehensively improve students' basic quality; (6) Strengthen academic exchanges and invite well-known experts, scholars and translators with rich practical experience to hold various forms of special lectures.

Direction of business English

This direction seeks the best combination of language ability training and business English knowledge learning. While cultivating English language ability, students should be familiar with various business activities and relevant business knowledge, covering enterprise management, economy and trade, finance, securities, international trade, business culture, business etiquette, tourism, law and other fields, and integrate language knowledge, communication skills, cultural background and business knowledge. Make the curriculum system design reasonable, the teaching plan appropriate, pay equal attention to theory and practice, and teaching and learning complement each other; Cultivate employees who are suitable for working in foreign trade, foreign trade, translation, enterprise management, individual owners, civil servants, foreign-related secretaries and other fields. Training mode: (1) Optimize the curriculum design, offer Cambridge Business English, International Trade Practice, E-commerce, Business English Interpretation, Business Etiquette, Foreign Secretary, Tourism English, Legal English and other courses for students, and standardize the curriculum. (2) Pay equal attention to theory and practice, highlight the application and practicality of this direction, organize students to participate in various practical activities such as business interpretation simulation training in an organized and step-by-step manner, broaden their horizons, strengthen exercise, comprehensively improve students' basic quality, and improve their professional ability and social practice ability; (3) On the premise of successfully completing various teaching tasks, take local enterprises and institutions as practice bases, organize visits, study and practice activities, or accept company interview guidance; (4) Encourage students to take the BEC level test, English tour guide card test, customs declaration card test, etc. And organize practical training and guidance for the exam.

Attaching great importance to and comprehensively strengthening practical teaching, the college understands the elements of talents: a qualified talent should have the following three elements, namely "morality+knowledge+ability".

In order to train qualified college students, on the basis of professional teaching, the college has introduced measures to strengthen practical teaching:

1. Set up the "Leading Group for Strengthening Practical Teaching in Translation College" to ensure the implementation of practical teaching organizationally;

2. Formulated the Outline of Strengthening Practical Teaching Plan of Translation College;

3. Implement the tutorial system according to the professional direction, requiring the tutor to guide students' study, life, practice and employment at all times;

4. Establish student growth files, record the footprints of student growth, and promote the development and improvement of students' ability;

5. Three forms of practical teaching: 1) practical activities in the middle of the semester; 2) Practical activities in winter and summer vacations; 3) Professional internship and graduation internship: from the traditional one-time internship in the next semester of senior year to the internship in three stages: two weeks before the start of the second semester of sophomore year; Internship 4 weeks before the start of the third semester; Internship 8 weeks before the start of the next semester in senior year.

Students' work is fruitful. Student work pays close attention to the construction of study style, and has formulated various rules and regulations such as Detailed Rules for the Quantitative Management of Students to guide students to correct their learning attitude and study independently. Students are required to learn professional knowledge well and integrate with society at the same time, and strive to improve their professional practice ability. Under the leadership of the General Branch of the Communist Youth League and the Student Union, we should do a good job in students' second class activities and strengthen the cultivation of students' comprehensive quality. Encourage students to actively organize and participate in various activities organized by the school.

The annual "Academic Culture and Art Festival" connects the student activities in each academic year into a main line, which comprehensively exercises students' various abilities and also plays a very good role in promoting professional learning.

The vigorous development of community work has improved students' practical ability.

Our college has English Association, Translation Association, Business English Association, Yinghai Drama Club and other organizations, and on this basis, it organizes large-scale report performance activities, and occasionally organizes academic reports, foreign song competitions, drama competitions, translation competitions, English corners and other special activities. And establish cooperative relations with relevant functional departments, enterprises and institutions in Rizhao, and organize students to visit, study and practice, which will help improve students' social adaptability and practical ability and lay a solid foundation for future employment.
