What does Lu Xun think of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine?
"Chinese medicine is just an intentional or unintentional liar."
But is he really an anti-TCM person?
How does Lu Xun treat Chinese medicine?
Come and have a look!
Lu Xun's attitude towards TCM can be roughly divided into two stages:
Both of them lashed out and studied this application.
In Lu Xun's works, the earliest image of traditional Chinese medicine is Mr. He in 19 18 April's Diary of a Madman. He is described as an "executioner" who eats people: "My eldest brother led an old man and came slowly, full of fierce eyes, afraid that I would see him, but he just lowered his head to the ground and peeked at me from the side of his glasses.
Big Brother said, "Please invite Mr. He to see you today."
I said, yes!
Big Brother said, "Please invite Mr. He to see you today."
I said, yes!
In fact, I didn't know the old man was dressed as an executioner!
The novel Tomorrow, June issue 1920, also has an image of Chinese medicine: "He Xiaoxian stretches his fingers to feel the pulse, and his nails are more than four inches long." He doesn't care about the illness of Bao Er, the youngest son of the single fourth sister-in-law of working women. He just lazily "stretched out two fingers to feel the pulse" and "closed his eyes after half a sentence".
Then, she easily took away the "thirteen small silver dollars and one hundred and eighty copper coins saved every day" of Shan Sisao. As a result, Bao Er's life was hopeless!
1922 12 Lu Xun said in the preface to Scream that many people who opposed Chinese medicine quoted: "I still remember the comments and prescriptions of previous doctors. Compared with what I know now, I gradually realized that Chinese medicine is just a liar, intentionally or unintentionally, and at the same time aroused sympathy for deceived patients and their families. "
Roughly before 1925, Chinese medicine in Lu Xun's works were all villains, and they were all objects of sarcasm.
From the background of the times, Lu Xun was a pioneer who opposed the traditional feudal culture at that time. From the standpoint of anti-feudalism, he is bound to criticize and deny the old traditional cultural thoughts.
1925, he once said in "Suddenly Thinking": "Our urgent task now is: first, we must survive, second, we must have enough food and clothing, and third, we must develop. What hinders this future, regardless of ancient and modern times, regardless of people and ghosts, are all three graves, five classics, a hundred songs and a thousand yuan, a celestial river map, a jade Buddha, an ancestral elixir, and a secret pharmaceutical paste, all of which have trampled him down. "
Traditional Chinese medicine is a part of traditional culture, and of course it will be "overthrown" without exception. This has a lot to do with the historical background of the New Culture Movement at that time. In the trend of anti-feudal culture and advocating scientific democracy, some cultural celebrities, such as Hu Shi, Chen Duxiu, Liang Qichao and Chen Yinque, all opposed Chinese medicine, and Liang Qichao was even amputated by western medicine.
From personal life experience, Lu Xun's father died because the local Chinese medicine treatment was ineffective. "Not only is he embarrassed, but his family has also fallen into poverty from a well-off society." These painful memories and heavy burdens left an indelible impression on Lu Xun's heart when he was young.
Lu Xun's "From Beard to Teeth" written on 1925 also talked about his previous dissatisfaction with Chinese medicine: "Most of it is because of delaying my father's illness, but I am afraid they also have some personal grievances that hurt the skin." With resentment, it is not surprising that he lashes and satirizes in his works.
Although Lu Xun criticized TCM in his early days, he was not isolated from TCM. On the contrary, he applied and studied TCM.
As can be seen from Lu Xun's diary, for a long time, he used Chinese medicine to treat diseases from time to time. As recorded in Japan:191211.061.00 "Drink ginger juice to cure stomachache, but it's actually better"; 1912165438+1October 23rd "Abdominal pain in the afternoon, making ginger juice and drinking it"; 1916 65438+1October 22nd "Shoulder pain after drinking Acanthopanax senticosus wine at night".
From 19 12, there are many records about this activity in Lu Xun's diary. This is related to Lu Xun's poor health. Xu Guangping recalled: "Take Lu Xun, a 33-year-old young man, as an example. Because he was always in trouble, he suffered from stomachache, nervousness, toothache, headache, body heat and cough. This year's 19 13. It can be seen that Lu Xun kept looking for ways in Chinese medicine because of his poor health, which shows that he did not deny the whole Chinese medicine.
Although Lu Xun had mocked Chinese medicine, he was also reading some ancient Chinese medicine books and doing some research.
For example, in Lu Xun's diary, there are: 19 14 September 12, "Buy two volumes of Emergency Moxibustion Prescription with acupuncture and choose a date"; 1965438+265438+February 0, 2005 "I went to the bookstore to buy an eight-volume edition of Shi Mao and Ji Gu and a four-volume edition of Matsui and Wang Shuhe Pulse Sutra"; February 2 1923 "In the afternoon, I went to Liulichang and bought a Jingyuan version of Cao Yi Yan, which cost two yuan and eighty cents a copy"; February 26th 1923, "In the afternoon, the bookstore borrowed ten volumes of" Chao's Theory of Pathogens "; April 27 1923 "Talk about Normal University in the morning. Buy one or two copies of Tongren Acupoint Acupuncture Picture Book from Zhili Bookstore, one yuan and forty cents; On August 2 nd 1927, I bought 22 medical books of 60,000 Zhai, including Chu's suicide note, the prescription for elbow emergency, Yuan He's prescription for Su's prescription, ten medical books, eighteen prescriptions for adding and subtracting Lingmi, Han's medical knowledge and a record of acne rash.
Lu Xun not only went to the bookstore many times to buy Chinese medicine books, but also personally supplemented them.
For example, 1927, 12 wrote in the August diary that "Zhai Liuyi medical books will be revised in the afternoon"; In August of the same year, 17, "Liu Zhai's medical book was supplemented in the afternoon". Lu Xun also shared ancient Chinese medicine books with his brother, such as1965438+diary dated July 29, 2005: "Letter from my second brother in the morning, spending 100 yuan (52) at home this month, and four volumes of pulse classics."
As can be seen from the above, Lu Xun has dabbled in the etiology, pulse condition, acupuncture and prescription of traditional Chinese medicine. I'm afraid I didn't buy these ancient Chinese medicine books for criticism.
Concept gradual change, objective evaluation
After 1930, Lu Xun's criticism of Chinese medicine is rare. His attitude towards Chinese medicine is very practical: he treats his family with Chinese medicine, recommends effective methods to relatives and friends, and gives an objective evaluation of Chinese medicine.
In the diary of/kloc-0 from August 30th to September 6th, 930, Lu Xun wrote four times to buy medicine for his son Zhou Haiying in Renjitang. Zhou Haiying talked about the treatment of Lu Xun in the past in Lu Xun and My Seventy Years. Lu Xun used mint-flavored Anfu Xiaoyan ointment and mustard ointment to treat his son's asthma. Mustard cream is his "trump card", often "after this hot compress, I feel that my breathing is greatly unobstructed", and the effect is quite good.
