Lin Fengmian's Style
A fusion of Chinese and Western styles.
Lin Fengmian was one of the earliest Chinese painters to receive education in Western art. When he traveled to France, he not only accepted the modern Western art style after Impressionism, but also studied the valuable Chinese art in the Oriental museums and ceramics museums, and he not only copied the techniques, but absorbed the essence of the art.
Lin Fengmian, who studied western art without forgetting the traditional oriental art, was well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the eastern and western art, and formed the artistic idea of "fusion of the east and the west", and created a new style of painting.
Expanded Information
Silence and Scream.
In 1977, Lin Fengmian was allowed to leave the country to visit his family, and from then on he moved to Hong Kong, where he lived until his death. In Hong Kong for more than a decade, he went to Brazil several times to visit his family, revisited Paris, which he had been away from for 60 years, and held solo exhibitions in Japan, France, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Hong Kong is an international metropolis, easy to sell paintings, well-informed, the days of closed ears are gone forever. But he was over 80 years old, used to a quiet life, not easy to treat guests, and rarely participated in social activities. He was surrounded by his daughter Feng Ye, who took care of his daily life and matters such as exhibitions and selling paintings. This was the most comfortable and free period of his life in decades.
This period was characterized by diligent painting, many works, and many acquisitions and collections. Most of his works from the 1940s to 1970s were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. After his arrival in Hong Kong, he painted a lot of reminiscent of his old works, including landscapes, still lifes, ladies, birds and flowers, and opera characters. New additions include Christ, nuns, dreams and Qu Yuan. All in all, he reproduced the two major themes of calling for humanity and chanting for life, with a more spontaneous, unrestrained and intense style.
