BYD Li Yunfei: Super Hybrid Power enters the traditional fuel vehicle Red Sea to realize dimension reduction.

Recently, BYD disclosed a brand-new DM-i super hybrid technology, equipped with a Xiaoyun-plug-in dedicated 1.5L high-efficiency engine, with a thermal efficiency as high as 43%. In 20021year, BYD will formally enter the traditional fuel market through DM-i models and join hands in brand joint venture. At the same time, Li Yunfei, deputy general manager of BYD Auto Sales Co., Ltd., took this opportunity to reveal a lot of important information.

Q: What is BYD's sales target this year? Advantages and market positioning of DM-i super hybrid electric vehicle?

Li Yunfei, Deputy General Manager of BYD Auto Sales Co., Ltd.: Affected by this year's epidemic, so far, the whole industry has experienced a cumulative year-on-year decline. Fortunately, since the second half of the year, BYD's overall growth flexibility is very large, especially the release of several new cars such as Han and Tang. We expect that the total sales volume this year should outperform the industry, and I think this is no problem.

Next year, we will launch super hybrid in the hybrid market. BYD will enter a red sea and create a blue ocean in the red sea. Because although the new energy market is growing rapidly now, the biggest market at present is traditional fuel vehicles. There are three mountains in the traditional fuel vehicle market-Japanese, German and American, and these foreign brands are firmly ahead. Among the main markets of traditional fuel vehicles, the car market has long been occupied by foreign brands. A few years ago, the marketing strategy of China brand in SUV market was not bad, but we can see that foreign brands are accelerating their layout and eyeing this market, and some joint-venture SUVs have achieved good market share. So such a big market, I think we should attack it and kill a Red Sea area. If China automobile brands rely solely on fuel vehicles, they cannot compete with foreign brands. Therefore, we must use new technologies to achieve the dimension reduction.

BYD's previous DM-p technology focused on absolute performance and pursued the ultimate experience, with a relatively limited audience. But with DM-i super hybrid, we can give more consumers more choices. The price of a model equipped with DM-p technology may be twice as high as that of a fuel vehicle of the same version. For example, a fuel car may cost about 90,000 yuan, and the DM-p super-performance model may be between 65,438+07 and 65,438+08. But with DM-i, it is equivalent to making some balance and making some trade-offs in some aspects. The original DM-p is 4 seconds, and now DM-i is 7 seconds. Through these optimized balances, we can give consumers more choices, and for us, we will enter a bigger market. For example, in the price range of foreign brand fuel vehicles, many consumers may not be particularly tempted by China brand, but BYD's super hybrid DM-i model has no purchase tax, and the final landing price is not much different from that of joint venture fuel vehicles. The fuel consumption of DM-i model is also much lower, and it is still a green brand. It is a new energy vehicle, and there is no need to limit purchases. Many consumers can't go back when driving electric vehicles (driving habits). Therefore, compared with foreign investment, the balance of consumers in DM-i will change greatly. We should attack and use our technical value to reduce the dimension and open up the blue ocean market. Therefore, the blade battery is a heavy weapon for BYD in the field of pure electric power, and the DM-i super hybrid will also be a heavy weapon for us in the hybrid power market.

Q: What is the driving performance of BYD DM-i model? When will it go on sale?

Li Yunfei: BYD Xiaoyun-The technical platform of plug-in 1.5L high-efficiency engine is DM-i super hybrid. About a month and a half later, we will have an event in Shenzhen, and a number of vehicles will be equipped with this technology platform for the first time. Let's start with some models of Qin and Song Dynasties, please go to the site to experience the test drive. Then everyone will see how low the fuel consumption is and experience all kinds of quiet, comfortable and smooth conditions including power loss. Models equipped with this technology will probably be officially launched at the end of the first quarter of next year.

Q: What is the comparison between extended-range hybrid and DM-i super hybrid?

Li Yunfei: Extended range hybrid power is also a mode of hybrid power. In fact, the extended program is what we call pure series mode in hybrid power. In BYD's dual-mode technology, there has always been the function of pure series mode. The pure series mode of extended program is very fuel-efficient under the condition of low steam speed, such as urban road conditions below 80 kilometers. But once in expressway, when the speed is 80~ 100 or even 120 km/h, the high-speed working condition falls into the high-efficiency area of the engine, so it will be more fuel-efficient to use the engine direct drive. BYD's plug-in hybrid mode includes series, parallel and hybrid, which is completely based on consumer demand and application scenarios.

Q: How does BYD Super Hybrid compare with Toyota? How is the joint venture between BYD and Toyota going?

Li Yunfei: Have you noticed that there are many new energy automobile companies, most of which only make pure electric vehicles? Because there are currently three technical categories, one is pure fuel, the other is hybrid oil and electricity, and the other is pure electric. In fact, among these three categories, the lowest technical threshold is pure electric vehicle, and the traditional fuel vehicle by going up one flight of stairs, the most difficult is hybrid electric vehicle-because it needs to master both the technology of electric vehicle and hybrid electric vehicle. After the system is designed, there must be good matching and cooperation, so hybrid power is undoubtedly the highest technical requirement and the highest threshold among the three categories. But there are only two companies in the world that really master these core technologies, one is BYD and the other is Toyota. Everyone knows that Toyota has been developing hybrid HEV models since the 1990s, but when Toyota developed hybrid vehicles, it was aimed at saving fuel and could not be extrapolated. BYD introduced the world's first plug-in hybrid vehicle in 2008. At present, in the field of new energy plug-in hybrid power in the world, Toyota and BYD have the most technology, the most reserves, the most patent applications, the earliest applications and the largest scale.

The joint venture between Toyota and BYD went public last year and was formally established this year. It should introduce the first electric vehicle to the China market around 2023. But the joint venture company only does pure electric and hangs Toyota's logo.

Q: What is BYD's future new energy development route?

Li Yunfei: At Chengdu Auto Show, BYD released Xiaoyun 1.5Ti high-power engine. At that time, everyone thought BYD was not a new energy vehicle? Why all of a sudden, the comeback is going to be an engine? I said it was just a snack before dinner. This Xiaoyun-plug-in hybrid engine 1.5L is a special engine for plug-in hybrid system, and it is also the world's highest thermal efficiency mass-produced gasoline engine (thermal efficiency is as high as 43%), which is only used for hybrid vehicles.

Regarding hybrid vehicles and pure electric vehicles, BYD has an overall consideration. I believe that the country or place will make relevant timetable, but for us, we should take the market and customers as the starting point and follow the choice of customer demand and market development. Therefore, for a long time to come, we will stick to three routes, one is a fuel vehicle, the other is a hybrid vehicle, and the other is a pure electric vehicle. These three routes will be adhered to, but the rhythm of their products will be different and the focus of publicity will be different.

Q: What progress has BYD made in opening to the outside world?

Li Yunfei: I think BYD's marketization or opening to the outside world can be considered from two dimensions. The first is the opening of the capital market, followed by the opening of the industrial market.

In the opening of the capital market, we can see that BYD Semiconductor has already had two rounds of financing in the first step, and now its valuation has exceeded10 billion. Many large domestic and foreign funds and investment institutions have found companies through various relationships and want to participate in the new round of financing. I believe BYD Semiconductor will go to the capital market in the next year or two.

The same is true for the Foday system, and the entire Foday plate will continue to open in the next few years. Now BYD is the controlling shareholder, but in the next few years, we will open our equity in the capital market, and BYD will become the largest shareholder in the future. We can involve more important industry participants and more industry funds.

The other is the opening of the industry. The chips provided by our semiconductor are mainly used to meet BYD's needs, and now they have begun to open to the outside world. Besides automobiles, other semiconductors like industrial semiconductors and consumer electronics semiconductors have also begun to make some relevant preparations and reserves.

Q: What type of battery is equipped with the DM-i model? How to ensure the safety of ternary lithium batteries in the future? What is the current external supply of BYD batteries?

Li Yunfei: BYD's flagship models this year mainly use the latest blade batteries, mainly pure electric vehicles of Tang Hehan, and no other models are equipped for the time being. 202 1 Tang Hehan's current order situation is very good.

The DM-i model is equipped with BYD's ternary lithium battery. Technology is relatively conservative, and everything gives way to safety. The ternary lithium battery itself has some advantages, but it also has some disadvantages. It is determined by its own materials and chemical characteristics, as well as manufacturing technology and quality control standards, so the products produced by each manufacturer are different. All in all, BYD has always put safety first.

Finally, we will see more about the external supply of batteries next year. At present, all the brands that can be thought of by major players in the basic market are under negotiation, and I believe this will be faster.
