Go online and see why making long-distance IP calls is cheaper than making traditional calls. What are their characteristics?

This is mainly because IP phones and ordinary phones use different technologies and networks. First of all, the voice transmission medium of IP phone is completely different from that of traditional phone. The transmission medium of IP telephone is Internet, while traditional telephone is public switched telephone network. Secondly, their exchange methods are completely different. IP telephone adopts packet switching technology, and information is transmitted in the form of packets according to IP protocol. Each packet has the address of the destination and the serial number of the packet, and then returns to the original signal after reaching the destination. The packet can reach the destination in different ways. Traditional telephone adopts circuit switching, which does not have these functions of IP telephone switching. From the occupied channel or bandwidth, IP phone only transmits information, and vice versa, so its voice information does not occupy a fixed channel. After using compression technology, their voice information can be compressed to 8 kbit/s, while traditional phones generally occupy a fixed channel of 64 kbit/s, and they always occupy this channel unless they hang up, so the bandwidth of IP phones is much lower than that of traditional phones.
