Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage in Sichuan

1, Shu embroidery

Shu embroidery, also known as Sichuan embroidery, is one of the four famous embroideries in China. This is a traditional China craft, in which patterns are embroidered on silk or other fabrics with silk thread. As one of the oldest embroideries in China, Shu Embroidery has formed its own unique charm with its bright and delicate colors and exquisite stitches, and its richness ranks first among the four famous embroideries.

2. Sichuan Opera

Sichuan Opera, commonly known as Sichuan Opera, is mainly popular in the Han areas of Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou and other provinces in southwest China. It is a traditional opera that combines five vocal arts, namely, Gao Qiang, Kunqu Opera, Huqin (that is, Pihuang), Tanxi (that is, Bangzi) and Sichuan Folk Lantern Opera. On May 20th, 2006, Sichuan Opera was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage.

3. Qiang Year

The Year of Qiang is a traditional festival popular in 23 Qiang inhabited areas in Lixian, Maoxian, Wenchuan and Beichuan Qiang Autonomous Counties in Sichuan Province, and it is one of the national intangible cultural heritages. In 2006, the year of Qiang was listed in the first batch of intangible cultural heritage by the Sichuan provincial government.

4. Zhu Qin, Sichuan

Sichuan Zhuqin originated from Taoist music. The earliest form of singing was multi-person singing with different roles. In 1930s, Jia Shusan created a single singing form, in which one person played multiple roles by sitting or walking. In the long-term development process, Zhu Qin music in Sichuan has evolved from a single tune to a variety of factions with different styles, and then formed a number of singing factions on the basis of tunes.

5. Emei Wushu

Emei Wushu is a general name of Wushu that originated from Emei Mountain in Sichuan and spread widely in Sichuan and even southwest China. Emei Wushu originated from Emei Mountain, with more than 80 schools and hundreds of boxing methods and moves. It is one of the three major schools of China Wushu.

6. Traditional production technology of Pixian watercress

Pixian watercress is a unique traditional craft, which is made of local beans and fresh peppers, plus flour and salt, and brewed naturally at about 40℃ for 3-5 months. In 2008, the traditional production techniques of watercress were included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
