4S store these items really do not need to do! (Serial III)

Hello everyone, I am Wang Qi.

After making the 4S store's set up to the second installment, I really felt the pressure like never before. There were actually people in the background leaving messages threatening me, which genuinely scared the piss out of me.

Of course, there are quite a few people who are backing me up. The encouragement and support I got from everyone made me even more determined to make this series complete.

You've been wanting to read about the hanging bottle carbon removal routine, so I've got it for you in this installment! There's also the dangers of hanging up bottles to get rid of carbon deposits and some effective ways to get rid of carbon deposits, so all in all, it's just a lot of good stuff!

When it comes to removing carbon deposits, I'm sure we can all say something. Especially when changing spark plugs, the mechanic will point to the blackened tip of the spark plug and tell you, "Look at this spark plug, it's so black, the carbon inside the combustion chamber is definitely less. The engine will be hung up with a bottle of this stuff to remove carbon deposits, which is very useful!

Actually, spark plugs are all black, just different degrees of black. Even if the spark plug carbon buildup is serious, the electrode gap is also small, directly replace the new one on the line, replace the spark plug is not very expensive. The mechanic is through the state of the spark plug to fool you to clear the cylinder carbon, next I will say in detail, hanging bottles in addition to carbon why no effect there is a risk of damage to the engine!

Hanging bottle connected to the air intake

The first is the hanging bottle connected to the air intake, cleaning agent through the air intake into the engine to participate in the combustion, gasoline is the main combustion medium, cleaning agent is the secondary combustion medium. This method is more useful for removing carbon from the throttle, and not very useful for removing carbon from the inside of the engine.

Since this cleaning method has a very low market share, it has been basically eliminated, and there is no harm in itself, so I won't expand on it here.

Hanging bottle connected to fuel line

The second is to connect the bottle to the fuel line. The gasoline is not involved in combustion, the cleaner is the only combustion medium. Start the engine idling, and when the cleaning fluid in the bottle is consumed, it will prove that the carbon has been removed.

The second one is much more harmful and is still used by many people. What we are going to talk about is the second type of cleaning.

This method of connecting the fuel line and hanging a bottle to remove carbon deposits is used by the aftermarket on a large scale. Whether it's a 4S store or a garage, almost anywhere you can get your car repaired, there's a service for removing carbon deposits from a hanging bottle.

Hanging the bottle on the surface looks to be a cleaning fluid instead of gasoline combustion, flushing the carbon in the engine combustion chamber. In essence, hanging the bottle to remove carbon will leave the engine in a state of detonation. The main reason is that the nature of most cleaning fluids are hydrocarbons, which can be understood as low-grade gasoline. There is little to no anti-knock, and even less carbon removal capability, and it's good to see that it doesn't produce carbon buildup.

When you think about spending hundreds of dollars, wouldn't you be pissed off if you knew you just added a bottle of gasoline~?

The risk of pulling a cylinder is high

Continuous engine detonation can cause high temperatures inside the combustion chamber, and there's a very high likelihood that it will result in an engine pulling a cylinder. In the early days, there were even cases of melted pistons. It wasn't really that early, just five or six years ago.

The three-way catalytic converter burned out

The harm caused by the hanging of the bottle is far more than that, the vibration is only one aspect, in fact, it will also lead to high temperature of the exhaust pipe. There is a very important part inside the exhaust pipe, which is the three-way catalytic converter. Three-way catalytic converter is a limit temperature, almost in 1000 degrees. Normal exhaust temperature is around 400~900 degrees, high temperature can easily exceed 1000 degrees, it will not take long, the three-way catalytic converter will be useless.

So when the mechanic removes the carbon deposits with a hanging bottle, he will let the engine idle and not dare to accelerate the throttle. Because of the throttle burst will be more serious, the risk factor soars. There is cleaning fluid only half a bottle, the rest of the sneaky pour. Because the more cleaning fluid, the longer the shock, the greater the risk factor. Mechanics heart are particularly clear, so the sooner the end of the better.

In addition to the poor effect of carbon

In fact, the core reason is still, hanging bottle almost no ability to remove carbon. Earlier in the year, the owner did not even know what the carbon was, even the carbon has not seen, the mechanic said what is what. The car is a health care product, and the owner is spending money to buy a psychological comfort.

With the gradual development of the aftermarket, car repair is becoming more and more transparent. The bottle will not work anymore, because the endoscope appeared. As long as the spark plugs are removed, you can see clearly whether the combustion chamber carbon is removed or not, this trick can not deceive people.

While the effect of hanging bottles to remove carbon deposits is very poor, there are still many businesses doing publicity. The first thing you need to do is to take a look at the video to see if it's a good idea to get a good look at the video, and if it's a good idea to get a good look at the video!

The increase in maintenance products

The price of hanging bottles to remove carbon deposits is usually in the range of 200 to 300 dollars, but also a great deal of risk, many repair shops do not like to do this. It is very likely that he sells a few maintenance products, the profit is out, is not it great.

Individual areas are still using hanging bottles

The gap between rich and poor in China is obvious, and different regions are like two worlds. In fact, put in the automotive aftermarket, is also true. In the first and second tier cities, there are very few people who use hanging bottles to get rid of carbon deposits. But in some third- and fourth-tier cities, hanging bottles to remove carbon deposits is still the mainstream~?

How to determine the engine needs to remove carbon?

So for car owners, how to judge whether their car needs to remove carbon? The following gives you a few dimensions to refer to.

1. Cold idle shaking, disappeared after warming up the car. That is, after starting the engine in the morning, the engine has a very obvious shaking phenomenon, and disappears after warming up the car.

2. Increased fuel consumption. Carbon deposits lead to an increase in fuel consumption generally in more than 20%, but this phenomenon is in the engine jitter after the emergence of the phenomenon, that is to say, there must be first jitter, followed by increased fuel consumption. (A simple increase in fuel consumption has no practical significance and is not indicative)

3. The kilometerage is usually more than 50,000 kilometers. Carbon deposits do not increase instantly, but need a certain amount of time to accumulate, the number of kilometers is small will not have carbon deposits at all, the number of kilometers is large before the possibility of carbon deposits.

One of the 1 and 2 is a very typical failure of the carbon increase, if your car at the same time appeared in these two situations, kilometers and more than 50,000 kilometers, to meet these three conditions, the basic probability of carbon increase can be judged.

For dealing with carbon deposits, I have the following several good methods to recommend to you

The fuel treasure

If your car, carbon deposits are not serious kilometers less, then the effect of fuel treasure to remove carbon deposits is still good. If your car is more than 100,000 kilometers, and the carbon buildup is serious, the effect of removing carbon deposits with FuelPower is not so obvious.

The main function of FuelBullet is to inhibit the production of carbon and remove thin carbon, for thick carbon, the treatment effect is not excellent.

Direct injection models generally 10,000 kilometers to use a bottle of fuel treasure, manifold injection models 20,000 to 30,000 kilometers to use a bottle of fuel treasure is good. There are many types of fuel booster on the market, and it is recommended that you buy a clean fuel booster, that is, one that focuses on the function of removing carbon deposits, and there is no need to add any other type of fuel booster.

The new car is generally 50,000 kilometers after the start of the fuel filler will be more appropriate. The first part is not necessary at all, because there will be almost no carbon deposits, and it is a waste of money to add.

Recommended two hardcore methods to remove carbon, they all belong to the category of "digging for coal", because they need to remove the intake tract, that is, walnut sand to remove carbon and dry ice blasting to remove carbon.

Walnut sand to remove carbon

Walnut sand is a granular walnut shell, and then use high-pressure air to blow the walnut sand to impact the engine intake door on the carbon. However, walnut sand has its shortcomings, that is, it can only remove the carbon on the intake door, but can not remove the carbon inside the cylinder, which is not so comprehensive.

The construction process requires a lot of dismantling, so it's very labor-intensive and expensive. A typical four-cylinder model will cost around a thousand dollars to remove the carbon.

Many people will worry about walnut sand residue, in fact, there is no need to worry. Because of the walnut sand residue on the valve, the engine will shake very seriously, and may not even be able to start the car. So the mechanic here will be exceptionally careful, handling very carefully. Because as long as there is residue, he will have to dismantle the intake tract again, which is very troublesome.

Dry ice blasting

Dry ice blasting cleans both the carbon in the air intake and the combustion chamber, but it's expensive.

Dry ice is also known as solid carbon dioxide. The principle is very simple, it is to replace the walnut sand with dry ice. Dry ice can be completely residue-free and quickly sublimates away at room temperature.

Dry ice blasting is very labor-intensive, and the fastest a typical four-cylinder model can take is more than three hours to remove the carbon from the gas port and combustion chamber. Plus the dry ice blasting machine itself is expensive, ranging from a few tens of thousands to over a hundred thousand dollars, so it leads to a very expensive price. Outside garages are about two thousand dollars for a wash, and if you're at a 4S store it's usually double that.

There aren't many stores that do dry ice blast cleaning these days, and very few, including 4S stores.

Walnut sand and dry ice blasting are both better ways to get rid of carbon deposits, and are suitable for models with large kilometers and serious carbon buildup, but they are really expensive~?

There are a lot of small partners must have heard of the way to dismantle the engine to remove carbon, in fact, in principle it is the best treatment effect. Because the entire engine is dismantled, any carbon buildup can be removed. But the engine's carbon buildup is generally not necessary to disassemble and clean, mainly because of the following three reasons.

The technical level of the mechanic is not good control

Disassembling the carbon means that the core engine parts are open, and now the mechanic's level is uneven, and the equipment and technology can be compared with the original factory. The first thing you need to do is to dismantle the engine and put it back together again, so that the carbon will be removed, and it is very likely that other faults will come immediately afterward.

Engine easily do not dismantle

The need to dismantle carbon removal of the car, kilometers and the age of the car are certainly not small. Especially some rubberized sealing system, simply can not withstand the toss, it is easy to leak oil and water. Especially the kilometers are large, do not disassemble as a last resort.

Disassembling the engine costs a lot

Disassembling the engine to remove carbon is almost indistinguishable from overhauling the engine, as long as the cylinder head is disassembled, it is equivalent to overhauling. Repair labor costs are thousands to start with. Spending such a high cost just to remove the carbon buildup is a bit of a losing proposition.

So dismantling the engine to get rid of carbon deposits is not useful for most models, and the three methods above are sufficient for removing carbon deposits.

In fact, there is no way to eliminate carbon deposits in principle, but there are ways to inhibit their growth. While the fuel injectors and dry ice blasting and walnut grit mentioned above are like treating a person's illness, the methods mentioned next are strengthening the body and controlling the growth of carbon buildup from the inside.

Changing your driving habits?

Changing driving habits is to try to drive with a big foot on the gas, so that the engine is in a better working condition, the mixture burns well, there will not be so much carbon.

To maximize the shift speed

The big throttle driving here is to maximize the shift speed as much as possible, more than four thousand rpm is the best. Increasing the shift speed not only can effectively inhibit the production of carbon deposits, the phenomenon of gearbox bracketing will also disappear. This is a great benefit to both the engine and the transmission. Manual gearboxes are easier to operate, and you can just switch them manually. Automatic transmission as long as you step y on the gas pedal, the transmission will automatically increase the shift speed. In fact, being in S also raises the shift rpm, equaling the effect of driving with a big foot on the gas.

There should have been more about washing the air conditioner in this issue, but there are a lot of cats and dogs in washing the air conditioner, and I had to find a car with the dashboard removed to give you a clear picture of the matter. I've been at the garage for the past few days, but I haven't been able to find a car with a detachable dashboard. In order to be responsible for everyone, the air conditioning wash will not be mentioned. I'm sorry, I'll give you an in-depth explanation when I have the right material!

Well, that's it for this installment. If you still want to know what shady, welcome to leave me a message at the bottom of the article, let's say one by one. We'll be back with more next issue!
