The Eight Characters of Birth or the Eight Characters is actually another way of saying the Four Pillars in the Zhou Yi terminology. The four pillars refer to the time of a person's birth, i.e., year, month, day and hour. In people with the heavenly stem and earthly branch each out of a word matching respectively to indicate the year, month, day, time, such as the year of the first son, chengshen month, xin ugly day, non Yin time, and so on. Two words per column, four columns **** eight, so fortune-telling is also known as "measuring eight". Four Pillars

Four Pillars refers to the year, month, day and hour of a person's birth. Four Pillars of Ranking means to find out the eight characters of a person's birth. It is done in four main steps.

Scheduling the year column

Year column, that is, the year of a person's birth is expressed in terms of the stem and branch. Note that the dividing line between the previous year and the next is the moment of the first day of spring, not the first day of the first month. For example, if a person was born on February 4, 2000 at 22:17, because of the lunar year 2000, the spring is February 4, 2000 at 20:32, so the person's year is 2000 of the gengchen, not 1999 of the dawning of the year.

Monthly column

Monthly column, i.e., the month and year of the person's birth is expressed in terms of the month and year of the festival. It is important to note that the month is not divided by the first day of the month in the lunar calendar, but by the festival, with the previous month's festival before the festival and the next month's festival after the festival.

Seasonal meaning:

May Mangseed: "Mang" refers to the fine hairs at the tip of the husk, and in the north it is the time for cutting wheat and planting rice, as well as the busiest time for plowing, and Mangseed falls on June 6 or 7 of the Gregorian calendar.

Small Summer in June: This festival means that it has entered the summer days, and the heat is very strong, the small summer is July 7 or 8 on the Gregorian calendar.

Scheduling of the Day Pillar

From the day of the 2nd month of the 3rd year of the Duke of Yin in the year of 722 B.C. to the present time, China's dry-branch calendar has never ceased to be in use. This is the longest known method of day-keeping in human society to date.

Day pillar, that is, using the lunar calendar of the dry branch on behalf of the day of birth. The sun is kept in a cycle of 60 days, and because of the difference between the big and small months and the leap years, the sun's stem and branch need to be found in the almanac.
