What is sludge digestion?
Sludge digestion is the stabilization of organic matter in sludge using the metabolic action of microorganisms. Stabilization is considered to have been achieved when the FSS content of volatile solids in the sludge is reduced to less than 40%. Sludge digestion can be done using either aerobic or anaerobic treatment processes.
