Side effects are minimal. Yttrium 90 microsphere therapy belongs to internal irradiation radiotherapy, in which glass or resin microspheres with radioactive element yttrium 90 are injected into tumor tissues via arterial route. The radioactive microspheres gather in tumor tissues because they cannot pass through the capillary beds of tumors, so that the dose of the local area is as high as 100~150 Gy, which produces a powerful killing effect on the tumor tissues, but the ray's penetration capacity is only 2.5 mm in liver tissues, so the damage to the normal liver tissues is very small. Therefore, the damage to normal liver tissue is very small.
